Amirah had to mull over what she’d just learned. Her brother was hoping to marry a Sandoval woman, and had sent for her sister to come to the capital. At first she thought it was all a jest, but by her father’s mood she could tell it wasn’t so. This was pure madness, so far as Amirah knew, but for her to burst out about it was not the time and also not her place. She was appeased by her own father’s outrage, and patiently awaited for Sabriyah’s arrival to see where the chips would fall.
For now, she needed to brew things over. What if her father, by some ridiculousness, got persuaded to allow her brother to wed a Westerner? While she considered, she leaned against a low wall of bricks just outside the home they employed in the capital. There were guards not too far away that kept watch, but not immediately beside her. Amirah was watching the passersby, the many people of the capital. Some were common-folk going about their day-to-day, some were nobles here only for the same reason she was.
She watched from afar what seemed to be a small altercation, voices were being raised. If she knew men and fights, she could tell where this was headed. As they were just before the al-Khalid house, the young woman thought she might as well intervene. With veil, darker skin colouring and eyes, and the lengthy but flow-filled dress, it would be clear to anyone informed of which family she belonged.
“My Lords, please. You attract undesirable attention,” she said, her tone suggesting that she might be lopped into that category but waved a single hand towards the few who were looking their way. Her guards were ready to come forth should their conversation take ill of her interference.
