Having arrived in Archades at the same time as the Gardiners, the Sinclairs share a long and storied agrarian history with their liege lords. While the Gardiners focused on dealing with regional politics and establishing their verdant farms, the Sinclairs were struggling to find suitable land for their livestock. Indeed, they almost failed in this endeavor until fortune smiled upon them in what would eventually become the county of Ashworth. Thankfully, the hardiest stock of cattle and horses survived the initial hardship, planting the seeds for a productive and lucrative line for generations to come.
As their herds grew, so too did their wealth and influence. With the expansion of the herds came further auxiliary products. Not only did the Sinclairs become the primary purveyor of beef on the hoof, but they soon incorporated leatherworking into their wheelhouse, producing some of the finest leather in Archades. Tanneries allowed the family to make more efficient use of their cattle; they are true to their roots, reluctant to disrespect the animals through any form of waste.
The Sinclairs, however, suffered for a number of years at the hands of the tribes to the north and the east, who frequently crossed the borders to raid and steal cattle. Try as they might, they could not sufficiently stave off the rustlers on foot, leading the Sinclairs to expand yet again. This time, they turned their attention to horses.
The Sinclairs began a breeding program, crossing their plow horses with the hardy mountain ponies from Vasile. Their patience paid off in three distinct bloodlines - large, strong horses that would stand their ground in a fight, sensible, solid horses that served well in hunts, and then a sleeker, faster line with endurance that made for light skirmishing, couriers and herding duties.
Consequently, they now work closely with the Duke’s brother to combine breeding programs and produce the unequivocally best mounts on the western side of Archades. The family is known for their contribution to the Army’s cavalry units in terms of men and mounts as well. A proud family, the Sinclairs enjoy their agrarian successes and their subtle influences on the face of Archades.
