Stephane had taken himself away from the Palace and the immediate surroundings of his family for the afternoon, he had ridden for several miles out into the open lands in the distance of the city. He had passed under the gates, nodded to the guards that stood on watch and had weaved his way through the lists of wagons and travellers still arriving in the capital. It was claustrophobic to him, at the moment, because he rightfully believed that these were his people – or at least, they should’ve been. He had not been able to overcome how bitter and how jaded he was feeling. But the ride he took himself on was not a futile ride. Stephane was absently looking for someone, and hoped to find that person on the outskirts of the city.
For this reason he had taken no guard with him, though was well armed and carried a great sword at his hip that he knew how to wield in a manner far surpassed display purposes. He was also not riding his usual horse, not wanting the Deveraux plumage and blanket of purple to be recognised on his usual steed. Today he had taken a smaller, but lighter prancing creature, of black mane and bay colouring, in seek of his cousin. The animal was good off the safety of the path.
He did not expect to meet trouble, but if he did he would almost welcome it. In the days since the coronation, he had felt very cold towards his family and would have liked nothing better than to take Nicolette by the hair and bash her brain against the walls until blood trickled out of her nose and mouth and eyes. But, decorum kept him from barbaric manner, and instead he was going in search of someone who may just share his feelings of jaded dejection. Stephane was looking for Lucien and rumour had it that the man had not gotten far in his exile from the city.
