Under the circumstances, could he blame her for her wariness? The enmity between their Houses was long established and justly so, in her mind. Angelia eyed him calmly, aware that her reply would not be welcomed and likely serve as fuel for his already simmering fire. However, she hadn't departed yet, continuing to give him a chance to state his case. Whether he liked it or not, they did not stand on even ground. She would not meet him halfway without good reason, which she had yet to receive. And his insults were not enhancing his appeal in the slightest.
Soft, dark brows rose at his taunts, though she merely smiled. No words were offered, recognizing the barbs for what they were - a lure, a baiting her to rise to his seemingly poor opinion of women in general. Angelia felt no impetus to prove herself to him and instead stood calmly, waiting for the next barrage of words. Within the confines of her mind, she wondered if he ever grew weary of playing such games, of testing everyone and anyone with twisted methods that painted him in a most negative light. And yet, she had a feeling there was more to him if he would set aside the mask of the arrogant, superior male he insisted on wearing.
A quiet sigh answered his inference that his cousin had surrendered so easily to Dante's blandishments. While Angelia doubted he so grossly underestimated Nicolette, she replied quietly, "You infer much behind one dance. That is all it was - a single dance. Dante has neither seen nor spoken with her since." There, she had just given something to him freely. The Sandovals were not pursuing Nicolette in any way, shape or form. "Go on."
