Character Name: Gwynevere Deschênes (requested name change).
Age: 16, going on 17. (requested age change)
Gender:Female
Birthdate: September, 8
City / Region: Forestier, Faucheux
House [ Birth, Marriage if applicable]: Birth: Deschênes
Played by:India Eisley
Appearance:
The youngest daughter of third line has just matured into the frame of a young woman rather than a little girl. Losing her babyface cuteness the girl is becoming an attractive adult while still maintaining some of her doll-like features. Her long dark locks of wavy brown hair almost borderlines on black during the winter months, and is almost always perfectly in place. She stands just a little over 5’3” and shows little sign of growing any taller. Gwynevere’s skin tends to stay fairer than the rest of her family even in the summer months, which offsets her sparkling blue eyes.
Gwyn has learned the fault of vanity from her parents and is very obsessed with keeping up appearances. While she only possesses a few items of finery, what she does have are among her most precious items. The teenager is very careful about choosing which garment to wear at during certain occasions. Depending on what she is doing, it is not uncommon to notice the girl changing her attire 3 or more times per day. She even has her closet organized by occasion rather than type of dress. A disruption in her looks caused by an outside force can bring up a meltdown depending on how severe the damage is.
Personality: There is no single trait that defines this young woman, nor is it simple to guess the kind of person she is just from spending time with her. Gwyn is the ever changing chameleon, adapting her personality to suit those around her. Even so there are certain traits that tend to shine through the mask she puts on each day. One such trait is ambition, she longs to prove herself to be more than just a minor pawn for a marriage agreement. While there is no disillusionment about her own social standing Gwynevere still looks for every opportunity to prove herself, and to impress her family members. And while she is jealous of her cousins for the position they are in and even the attention they receive the girl is careful to keep such feelings to herself. Her jealous nature is secondary (for now) to the love and devotion she has for her family.
Although, the single person who the girl wishes to impress most would be her father. Ever since she was a child the Gwyn could be seen as a “daddy’s girl” as the she followed him around everywhere she could to the point of imitating him. Manipulation, cunning, charm, and intelligence were traits shared by both father and daughter which helped to forge their bond. Gwyn learned very young that her father’s affection, unlike the rest of her family, was something which had to be earned rather than freely given. While such a thing perhaps pushed other children away, the challenge to prove herself made the girl more determined to seek out his approval.
Her thirst for knowledge has always been unquenchable; always fascinated by both of her parents and their stories about court, she has studied as many books in her father’s libraries as she could. She has a variety of educational interests such as history, philosophy, apothecary, music, anatomy, geography and when she became older, law. Her choices were a mixture of her own interests along with emulating her father to gain his approval. Among the most enjoyable subjects was the ways of the court, and the healing arts.
While Gwyn isn’t an open about her feelings as some, she does appear to be a good sounding board and is willing to listen to anyone who comes to her. Rarely does she vocally judge another person, but again she does have a dual nature. On one hand she can be kind, and caring while on the other she is impish and cunning. The only one who really can tell what she is thinking would be her twin, Kael. The twins seem to know exactly what the other one of them is thinking or feeling; they have an almost telepathic twin power. Likely this is more due to the fact they are almost always around each other, and tell each other everything. The two even have a nonsensical twin language that they still use to communicate in secret with. And there are few people they don’t try to annoy with these secret twin powers.
What is the one of the few truths about the girl is that she is strives to make life interesting and loves games. Even when doing the most mundane tasks she rarely is open to simply being quiet, but rather tries to make chores a competition or sings while she works. Both of the twins have lovely singing voices and Gwyn played the lute as a child, though she has gotten out of practice. The twins are known for singing with and for each other during any portion of the day save for meals or prayer. They have even created songs and duets together in their secret language. Their mother has taken upon herself to make sure both of the children are well practiced in song thinking it to be a viable skill that they could use at court.
Although the twins grew up extremely close to each other they did not alienate themselves from other family members. Their older sister Eimilie had been a secondary care giver for the two younger children. For Gwynevere her older sister had always been someone she could look for unconditional love, although the two of them did not always see eye to eye. Em was also the one who taught Gwyn how to properly ride, and take care of a horse. Tristan, was the real life knight in shining armor that only existed in stories. Although, she wasn’t able to spend a lot of time with her brother, as he was off training, whenever he came home she would beg him to tell stories of his escapades, or be insistent that he showed her what he learned from his training. Besides her twin, Breena would be another person Gwyn would consider herself close with. Often times if the girl needs to go to the forest to search for herbs, wants to find a good book, or have an adventure she will seek out her cousin. As for Daragh, the girl actually never knew the new head of the house all that well since he is far older. As she has grown up Gwynevere has decided that it was time she get to know her older cousin and make an impression on him to prove she is more than what she seems to be…
Specific Skills or Abilities:
-Social/Courtly Grace/Manipulation
-Healing arts/Midwifery/apothecary/human anatomy- She is an unofficial apprentice both to the local midwife and healer. Some skills she has practiced include: combat medicine, minor surgeries, child birth, poison study, antidote creation, herbs, and diagnosis of illness.
-Musician. Experienced singer. She does know the basics of the lute, but her talent lies in her voice.
-Well studied in many academic subjects, but has a more breadth of knowledge rather than being an expert. Such subjects include: history, philosophy, apothecary, music, anatomy, geography and some law.
Background:
The final addition to Artek’s line had been a surprise to all of the family. Her parents had come to terms with the fact that after seven years it was unlikely another child would be born to them. Yet, it seemed the moment they gave up Gwyn’s mother found herself with child or rather children. Since their birth on that warm, sunny day in September the girl has grown accustomed to being doted upon by her parents and siblings. The twins were the type of children who knew exactly how cute they were, and worst of all how to use it to their advantage. It seemed their mother often fell victim to this tactic as she treated the two more like a pair of dolls than children of the house. Were it not for her father’s intervention the twins would have grown up undoubtable spoiled. They were never was the little angels their mother claimed them to be.
Both easily grew up with a natural knack for manipulation, and a devious nature. The two, being far younger than their siblings, would often follow their brothers and sisters around even when they were not supposed to be there, or wanted. Thus they quickly became skilled for getting into places they weren’t supposed to be, or spying on other family members. And, even when they were caught, the punishments were not severe enough to make the two of them outright stop their games. Although neither of them never truly meant any harm by this as they merely saw it as another little adventure to have.
All Deschênes children learn quickly that throwing tantrums, and complaining will not get you anywhere in life. Of course as a child Gwyn had tried to push her luck with such tactics, but when that didn’t succeed she quickly learned to drop the bad habit. Instead of acting childish she became both the observer and the actress to get what she wanted. Gwynevere learned that often times showing oneself as another’s ally, or even a sweet innocent smile could accomplish so much more than a whine. And while she didn’t particularly enjoy mundane work the girl learned it was better to just take part in her duty rather than complain.
As the girl grew up her intelligence and thirst for learning began to soared with her. Gwynevere quickly proved herself a capable student excelling at most subjects given to her and wanting to learn even more. She started to become more and more interested in the healing arts when the girl saw illness and injury affect her family members. The idea that she could fix someone that was broken was something that always clung to her mind. Although her parents weren’t very pleased with the idea they decided to indulge her interests letting her take an unofficial apprenticeship with the local physician and midwife. She would both work within the manor and out in the village to help out the common people as well. At first house calls were nothing more than simple errands, but soon they became more complex as the physician even allowed the girl to perform minor surgeries, and an amputation. When the lord of the house became very ill Gwynevere did volunteer to assist the physician with his care. This also gave Gwyn the opportunity to get to actually know the former house Lord more, and develop a friendship with him when she was otherwise virtually unknown.
The friendship with the Lord did nothing to replace the bond the girl shared with her father, nor her twin. Although Artek was not always around the twins have both proven their capabilities to him. Their father has taken both children under his wing to teach them how to manipulate the courts, his tactics, and making both of them his protégés. If their family will approve of this training has yet to remain seen.
Writing Sample:
Alabaster stones crackled beneath her feet as the child of nobility walked along the road towards her home. The day had been tiresome, and already Gwynevere was regretting her brilliant idea of walking back from the night spent with her mentor at the farm nearby. She still wasn’t sure how the midwife had done it, but somehow the old woman had convinced the expecting mother to allow an apprentice to deliver the baby. Gwynevere simply assumed the fact that a noble was willing to deliver the baby of a commoner might have played a role in the decision. In any other place it would have seemed likely odd for one of noble blood to mingle in with the common folk, but in Forestier it was often necessary. The girl was far from a stranger in the village as many of them saw Gwyn helping out on a regular basis.
Whatever the reason might have been the result was the fact Gwynevere was returning from delivering her first baby. And although the teen was utterly exhausted from the entirety of the ordeal the girl couldn’t help the feeling of glee that was washed over her. Even as she trudged the long walk back home the noble lady was happy singing to herself a simple song of nonsense in celebration as she almost danced down the road. Although the labor had been long the new born child was healthy along with it’s mother. Wait until she told Kael! The whole night she had been running everything, and it went through smoothly. If she could bring new life into the world then Gwyn could truly do anything couldn’t she?
And as quick as those happy thoughts bounce through her mind they vanished when she heard the sound of hoof beats on the road behind her. Her blue eyes darted back at first a bit panicked as she realized that perhaps going off by her lonesome perhaps might have been a poor decision due to sleep deprivation. Stepping off to the side of the road the girl had thought about running, or hiding in the ditch when she caught sight of the steed and his rider. Instantly a sigh of relief escaped the girl as noted not only the color of the horse, but the rider. Her other half had always been her savior in times of need and yet again here he was to rescue her. A smile instantly appeared on her lips completely forgetting about the troubles that had plagued her earlier, “And here I thought a dashing knight had come to sweep me off my feet…”
