Character Name: Luciano Tesoro
Age: 23
Gender: Male
Birthdate: December 15 1423
City / Region: Pistoia, Seravino
House [ Birth, Marriage if applicable ]: Tesoro
Played by:
Rupert Young
Appearance:
Luciano's wild and untamed blonde locks are one of his more noticeable features, though they hardly distract from his wide forehead and shapely face. He's almost always got some scruff on his chin, since he likes the effect of facial hair and thinks it makes him appear more mature (whether it does or not is a matter of opinion). Though he has small eyes, their clear blue luster gives him a distinct gaze that draws enough attention to be distinct. The man has a solid build, with broad shoulders and a sturdy chest, though he has a narrow waist and flexible enough stature to be quick as well as strong. With
such light eyebrows and sturdy forehead, Luciano's expressions can sometimes be hard to read, unless one knows him particularly well. He sometimes overcompensates for this by making strange expressions (often for the amusement of others, especially those who recognize how much tomfoolery is behind them). The majority of Luciano's height, which is somewhat above average for a man, is well distributed between his chest and legs, though his legs have some more length that gives him a long stride and impressive speed, when he has a mind to use them.
Personality:
Whether or not one likes Luciano is often up to personal taste. He is not the sort of man that makes no impression, that's for sure, and he comes off strong to those who find his abundance of confidence and effervescence off-putting. Still, there's no question he's got people skills. Those who meet him during periods of stratagem would report he's a serious and standoffish man, but this only reflects his intense focus when he's got a job to prepare for. When seen in more relaxed settings, Luciano can be the life of the party, knowing how to be charming and charismatic. He doesn't take politics very seriously, finding them tiresome and flighty when he believes people should be up front and honest. Trickery and thievery are his abhorrence, and Luciano takes a lot of time to combat such ill manners in those who would attempt to steal his family's precious commodities. In his mind, one's got to earn one's living, and he lives this out by being a man of action and dedication. Luciano would never ask someone to do something he wasn't willing to try himself, and in this sense he's willing to do just about anything someone wants to challenge him to do. No work is too humble, no task outside his dignity, and in this sense he is a fair and humble sort of person, despite what his confidence might make him seem. There's nothing he likes more than a good party or gathering. Oftentimes Luciano comes off as a big flirt with pretty women, but he's never been one to do anything his family would disapprove of, knowing that he would never be selfish enough to ruin a young lady's life by playing around when he wasn't serious about it. In this sense he is a very honorable man, though some people would claim otherwise based on appearances. Though he often goes with feeling rather than thought when in the moment, Luciano is not easily swayed from his principles no matter what emotions try to take hold of him. In this sense he has more control over himself than people give him credit for. No matter how his cheerful personality, love of a good time, and affinity for flirting make him look, he's not a bad guy, and one can trust his word and his sword in a tight spot. Though he does not seem the "type" to love reading, it is one of his favorite pastimes. His taste, however, tends toward historical accounts, biographies, and commentaries on topics such as war, philosophy, and theology.
Specific Skills or Abilities:
Character History:
Born the second of three children to Telario Tesoro and his wife, Luciano was a practical mind born into a creative family, and sometimes he was made to feel it. Abstracts and angles and colors were not his specialty (especially because he is colorblind). Where he saw the world (literally and figuratively) in black and white, his family saw a vast array of color and light, and at times Luciano envied them for this reason. Still, as he got older, Luciano became more and more comfortable with himself and the way he was, and by the time he had started training as a squire he was fully confident in this decision and career. He knew himself to be a man of skill, strength, and strategy, and he wanted to use these skills for his family, bringing something to the table that few of his house did.
As a boy, Luciano looked up to his older brother, Santino. However, their different personalities and interests led them to inevitably grow distant, and though Luciano is still fond his brother, they cannot be called particularly close. The same cannot be said of Luciano and his younger sister, Fabiana, of whom he is very fond. Though the two do not share many common interests, they share a love of books. (Their tastes may be a bit different, but Luciano is always willing to read anything his sister does, and she is, as well, making them a fine pair who can entertain themselves well enough with or without company). In this sense Luciano has always had the mind and resources to cultivate himself as a deep thinker, but he grew up diverting some of his study time to learning swordsmanship, and so most of his reading tastes are practical and applicable choices on his part, since he does not always have time to spend reading romances or epics which have very little payoff beyond pleasure.
When Luciano was a teenager, he held an ambition to become a knight. However, his father insisted that he remain with the family, and so the young Tesoro boy began escorting caravans with other guards and began to learn the art of protecting. Once he started, Luciano quickly became obsessed with this new experience, and he began reading everything he could about strategies, historical campaigns---anything that could help him become a better protector of his family's assets. This shift in direction concerning the boy's interests pleased his family, of course, and his determination and effort impressed many people around him, making him an example of hard work and passion to others his age.
Recently Luciano has been focusing on improving his strategy, but also studying under famed swordsmen to hone his skills.
Writing Sample:
The wagon stalled as its wheel gave a load groan before snapping at the joint. Great. Another setback. Between a lame ox and three river crossings that had gone pretty badly, this was turning out to be one hell of a rough job. Luciano patted one of his guards on the shoulder. "Keep an eye out for trouble while the wheel gets repaired," he said in a low voice. Moments like these, where the wagon and its contents were necessarily immobile, made for good opportunities in the eyes of bandits and thieves. The guard nodded his head and put an arrow to the string, keeping himself alert and ready in case the worst happened and the wagon was ambushed.
Luciano walked over to the offending wheel, where the wagon driver and another guard were preparing to remove it and replace the wheel with one of the many spares kept in the back for just such occasions. "Should be back on the road soon, ser," the driver said with a tip of his cap. "Just got shot after that last jolt. Won't take long to replace it."
"Good work, Carver," Luciano said with a grin and a solid pat on the man's shoulder. He found that encouraging worked better than pressuring in such situations. There were plenty of guard captains who would prefer to rake their men over the coals, a feeling born out of an insecurity and anxiety about the possibility of the wagon being robbed. But Luciano felt no such insecurity, as he knew he had prepared well and his men knew how to handle themselves. Keeping one hand rested on his sword hilt, Luciano stood beside the wagon and watched the trees on either side for any signs of movement. These moments, where they were forced to stand still, could be excruciating for the guards, but as far as appearances could tell Luciano was relaxed and vigilant. The precious jewels of his family lay ready to be snatched, but between any potential thief and his prize were the ten guards and their captain watching with intensity. Such a sight was a deterrent to most, and encouraged others to be cunning in their methods. But few thieves could outwit Luciano.
As soon as the wagon was ready to continue on, Luciano gathered the guards and ordered them into their positions. Then he signaled for the procession to proceed. It looked as if they were free of bandits for the moment. Heaven only knew if that was about to change.
