The palace was full of people hurrying to and fro, trying to get every thing ready for the Tournament that began in a few days. So were the grounds where the Tournament was being held, and the Clavigers' fields. Wanting to escape the hustle and the bustle, Marie-Louise got her harp and fled into the depths of the gardens where few people thought to go unless they had a reason. The palace gardens were extensive, offering plenty of places where a person could enjoy some peace without worrying about disturbing anyone.
That didn't mean the music wouldn't be heard and maybe call to someone who was exploring. Or who might be already there for the very same reason that she was, of course. Finding one of her favorite benches, Marie-Louise looked around to be sure she was alone and sat down before she took her harp out of her case. She checked the strings carefully, making sure the instrument was in tune, since she had played it the night before for her father.
Nodding to herself, she settled down and thought about what she wanted to play. After a minute, Marie-Louise decided on a piece that Julien had composed that always made her think of the birds in flight during spring. The way they danced and dipped, circled and spun in a showing off way, or chased each other around the sky. The song was light and full of mischief, meant to make the feet tap and want to dance. It made her smile, playing it with pleasure, not knowing if anyone heard her.
