Character Name: Elisabeta Montefiore
Age: 21
Gender: Female
Birthdate:
City / Region: Seravino
House [ Birth, Marriage if applicable]: Montefiore
Played by: Jessica Brown-Findlay
Appearance:
Dark long brown hair rolls over a soft oval face with a gently rounded chin. A pair of doeish eyes light colored eyes beset near a roman nose, beset above a pair of pouting lips. Her eyes are expressive, and emphasized by a pair of carefully arching eyebrows. Her hair is long, and straight, with a extended curl throughout those locks. The weight seemingly hides the curl itself unless when it is washed, or when she is strained. Often worn back in bun, or braided to remain clean. A delicate swan like neck streams downward into a pair of rounded thin framed shoulders. Her arms show a thin line of muscle, and move down into hands that have rarely worked a hard day in her life.
With a curvy and young figure she often does not seem to be as imposing as one might let on. She prefers immaculate dresses of current fashion, and wears her Houses colors in most her attire. Dresses, and even simple ribbons tied into her hair. To be a Montefiore is of utter importance, and showing her allegiance is part of that importance.
Her torso is strong, and yet slim. Feminine in build, and betraying the typical build of the rest of her sisters, with her height being a slight medium and not nearly as towering as her brother.
Personality:
Ambitious. Contentious, and with a touch of finesse. Words to describe a woman who grow up in what she considered a slowly liberalizing society. Still, she was in her mind second class to the rest of the men in her home Duchy. Also, even abroad she can tell that women are only second. An ideal she built from the ground up when she was young.
Elisabeta is not one for historical precendent, but she does study history carefully. Actions of the past have without much forethought rendered silly decisions in the future. For this reason she studies others, and she studies the actions of their Houses. When the rest of her family steams over the feud with their distant cousins, the Deliambre. Keeping small notes as a means of developing strategies as necessary to undo those in her way. Ambition drives her, and it is calculating desire that she hopes will bring her goals about.
Perhaps it is this very reason she seeks to strike out from her household, and in a way found her own. Marriage being the only true avenue to gain what she wished. First, a means to expand her own freedom, and to gain agency under the already chafing restrictions placed upon her life as the daughter of a duke. Second, to spread the power of her family, and in general gain against the Deliambre.
However, her passions are the only aspects of her personality. There is also the warmth, and passion that underlay her other emotions. She is not a woman to necessarily mask herself unless when it is needed. The truth is she is a tad inexperienced in greater maneuvering which has caused a few blunders on her part in the past. Naivety is something she still exudes to a point, and often hides through careful vague references to avoid misunderstandings. In general the woman hates being caught off guard, or appearing the foolish woman. It is perhaps this very dislike that grew from mistakes as a child that has charged her desire even more so for freedom.
In many cases the woman can be quite charitable, and even from time to time altruistic. Ambition goes hand in hand with her desire to bring a better life to those around her. This can then clash with a strong sense of morals that the woman has built over time. To chain a person down to her is without good use, she even has at times questioned the way the smallfolk are treated by others of the nobility. To her merit rules above others, and at times her families goals. A fact she often keeps to herself.
Specific Skills or Abilities:
Elisabeta's skills center around goal planning, strategical forethought, and perception of outcomes. She may not be the sharpest tongue there is, but if there is one thing she does do it is study others. Throughout the history of her Duchy, and the Kingdom of Araches there are actions to study and learn from. Elisabeta respectfully spend times reading, and debate the actions of others while honing her skill in political strategy.
The young woman is also comforting, and slightly charismatic to a point. Along with the ability to act as a confidant for others while gathering information.
Background:
Elisabeta was born the of the second of five daughters to Giulano the Elder of Seravino. Even as a young child she would find herself surrounded by her sisters younger and older. Even as a young girl she could would find herself given a life of being by tutors, and governesses. It was a controlled life she found herself in as she watched her brothers age and find families of their own. It was something once she questioned, and asked aloud why her male siblings.
When her desire for freedom truly formulated no one was certain. As a child the young girl often looked to history books, and questioned why things existed in certain ways. Studying the histories of the Great Houses, she begant o wonder why only men seemed to lead with power. Women could inherit Seravino, but only in rare cases. But it was always boys making a difference, and for some reason her governesses, nor even a random query to her mother could not really answer that question.
This growing sense of inquiry, did not simply go away as many in the family might wish. Reading about great works the girl grew more and more ambitious each year. When her brother Nicocolo was happy being a playboy, the elder two brothers had families. Oft as she watched her older sister EDaniela slowly becoming the future bride of a well placed noble lord, Elisbeta would wonder if she could aim higher. This all came to a head when the eldest of Guilano the Elder's children, Guilano III was killed when their carriage overturned on their way to Solara. Then suddenly a year later the next eldest of her brother's perished.
Perhaps it was her father's reaction that caused the woman covertly question the way succession was handled in the family. Why not through meritocracy? If not for her brother Niccolo's ability the family would have likely fallen on hard times. So it was then that the young woman began to wonder, could she do better? Could a girl have done better? Why were men so desired that her father simply failed to act as Duke after losing two sons? Her thoughts had run rampant during those times.
A weakness in a way that to her was being openly used by their ancient feuding cousins, the Deliambre. So it was then as she reached her late teens and early twenties that she decided to be more. She would go beyond what Daniela had received in her marriage, and would aim to establish her own powerful independent household. Then when she could expand the power of her family to support her brother, and show her father that he should not grieve at the loss of sons., When he still had four daughters to provide for the family in ways more than marriage alliances.
Writing Sample:
Growing up in Drakespire one could gain a sense of respect for architecture. A massive castle set upon a high - high position of power. Light tan or even sepia colored brick made up the castle, and it was in one of the great rooms of the keep that she held her rooms. Here the young woman looked out a large window out into the open valley of the highlands of Seravino. The ancient homeland of her family, and people. A land they had colonized with the Sandoval family. A land abandoned by the Deliambre.
That day the young woman was spending her time with a book. "A History of Archades", a newly written piece she had picked up from a local scholar while traveling with the local markets of the town nearby the castle. Of course she had been int he company of a knight of the House, and a female chaperone. Both had looked as she had grown two heads when she had sought out a local scribe for his work on a new manuscript. Now after the adventure was done she was reading. Perusing facts of history that she did not know. Learning about the other Houses, the other Duchies. Hoping to figure out where her father might seek outside help if he did not wed her to one of the vassal Houses of the Duchy itself.
"Hmmmm never to a Sandoval though," she said to herself a loud. Her parents, and brother supported the Sandoval family, former Kings of Archades and now exiled. Perhaps she could hope, but then again what would that life offer? Knowing her family many things could be up in the air, especially with the Deliambre always watching like hungry vultures for the family to falter like a weakening animal in the mountains.
