“An offer from the Deverauxs, eh? Net yourself a pretty little princess?”
In response to this Rys gave an almost sour look at his mentor and friend. It was accompanied with a swig from his drink, which was quickly becoming empty. His eyes went sharply to the man next to him, then down into his glass to be accompanied with a hefty sigh.
“Oh, damn, really?...Wow,”
”Not an entirely helpful response, friend.” Rys murmured, though the murmuring was mocking it was without his normal playful tormenting. He felt squashed by this decision and he couldn’t put into words the reason it made him feel so. Of course, deep down he understood the reason to be a sweet redhead who captivated his entire thoughts most mornings and evenings. But he could not express that, and most definitely to the man sat next to him. After all, that would be bad. So very bad.
He knew how petulant he sounded. The Princesses were glamorous, beautiful women and Mariette, he could not deny, the most striking of them. They had spent some time together, away from the pestering court, and he was sure they had many things in common. Logic told him their coupling would be a powerful tool laid upon this world. He knew it would assist his father’s clan-war, but more inventive than that it would reinstate the importance of the Cadag name within the courts and remind Archades that they were not simply ‘backwards folk from the mountains’. Rys had big ambitions, and marrying a Princess would most certainly be a way of achieving them.
”It’s just rebellion, that’s all.” He shrugged. “There’s no reason for it. I just—know so little about her…and for some reason that seems to matter. And I am sure it would be easily rectified if not for the party leaving to Vasile...and our own troubles in Vulcanis.”[/i][/b]
