To say Nicholas Miller was a busy man would be quite true. Between training, his duties as bodyguard, the various errands he had to run and every moment he could steal away with Gabrielle, there was little time left. And a good part of it was his education. Ever since he had started to learn to read and write with Carlotta and Salvatore Deliambre, lessons have been going apace and while his ability to spell and his comprehension of grammar had expanded drastically, his handwriting was still beyond brutish. But it was quickly established that it was not through him not making efforts to improve, it was due to the bones in his wrists and hands having become misshapen as a result of his life as an archer and he had come to terms with the fact his penmanship was destined to remain hopelessly coarse.
But as the current lesson, in which he was reading from some epic he could hardly wrap his head around, proceeded, Nick set down the volume. Something had been bothering him for some time and he had to air it out. However, to say he was short on confidants would have been an understatement of rare proportions. His mentor was one of the few men who came as close as could be, and he approached the matter with his usual directness.
"Tory, your family, it's said you've all got a good head for making money. Since I've been knighted, I've become wealthier than I've ever been. But I won't be able to do this forever, am I? Other than my stipend, my pay and my knight's fee, I have no income, nothing that will last after I can no longer serve. Would you know ways to... make wealth in ways that will last?"
