Character Name: Martine Deveraux
Age: 20
Gender: Female
Birthdate: April 23
City / Region: Bordelaix, Faucheux
House [ Birth, Marriage if applicable]: Deveraux
Played by: Gabriella Wilde
Appearance: With her lovely complexion, sky blue eyes, and stunning blonde hair Martine always looks the part of a beautiful Princess; however, she is not flamboyant in her appearance. Polished would be the way to describe her look in everything from her makeup, hair, clothing, and the way she carries herself. Her blonde tresses are naturally wavy which depending on the day can both help and hinder the woman’s look. Martine doesn’t have a signature hairstyle however instead wearing whatever she deems appropriate or how she feels her hair will cooperate that day.
Her clothing style of choice is not overtly extravagant, but more so considered to be high fashion. Not on the extreme of pushing the envelope Martine instead chooses her outfits to help make a statement of her social status, that of royalty.
Personality: Martine is a polished jewel both inside and out, forged by the flames of high expectations. Duty has been engraved upon Martine’s heart, so much so that behaving like a perfect princess is in the woman’s primary nature. The lady is refined, and sophisticated yet at the other extension she is strives to be outwardly kind to anyone she meets. Humility seems to be one of other her traits as the woman rarely boasts about any of her own features or talents. On the other hand, Martine is very observant both about herself and others in both appearance, emotions, and habits. While most often she uses her observations to try to help those around this does also open the door to one of her flaws, envy. Although she tries to hide it, the woman can not help but wish she could be like some of the other ladies at court who do not hold themselves back in reserve, or who hold exotic beauty.
While Princess is reserved she is not dull, the woman is politely charming with an intelligent wit able to keep pace with a variety of conversation and situations. Not unfeeling either, she strives that every emotion is expressed is one that is suited to a princess in whatever situation she is in. Joy, anger, and sadness all have their places, but only in tempered doses. To see the Princess at any of the extreme of these emotions is a rare occurrence, unless you observe her while playing or singing. Music is the one instance where Martine can find release for strong emotions, extremely strong. While she can restrain herself when so desired it is difficult for the young woman not throw her true self into her music. If the lady is truly sad one will know it by the song she sings or play, or if she is angry she can cause the music hall to tremble with her fingers dancing upon the keys.
Lastly, Martine is also mistrustful although she doesn’t openly advertise this at all. She is friendly and kind to everyone, but there are very full the young woman feels comfortable with to trust with her honest feelings. Those who have her trust though will find the Princess to be exceptionally loyal in return as she believe such things to be the rarest of all treasures.

Virtuoso Musician and Composer- Martine’s sanctuary has always been her music, she will spend hours of the day at the pianoforte, singing, composing, or with any instrument she can get her hands on. Often times she has used makeshift items to create her own instruments in order to make sound.
Her favorite instrument is the piano/fortepiano however she also plays the violin, harp, flute, and lute. Martine also has been been taking vocal lessons since she was a mere child developing not only a lovely voice, breath control, but a range in song. She also composes and has a multitude of songs written in her repertoire, and in her memory. Martine has composed pieces for the intention they be played by groups of players, but most of these are hidden away. There have been a couple of instances the Princess has lead a quartet, or written pieces for her family to play together.
Her music pieces are highly emotional, it is the only way she has found to truly express her thoughts, emotions, inner most desires, and her history. When she plays instead of holding perfect posture as a lady should the woman throws herself into her music often hovering barely above the keys or shaking when she plays.
Tonal Memory or Playing by ear- Highly sensitive to sound she is able to recall sounds or imitate sounds she has previously heard without the need for sheet music, or watching someone play. Many of the songs she composes she has them merely notated as her compositions are in her memory linked to her emotions at the time. She is also very aware of rhythm and is able to easily count the beats of any sound she hears interpreting them into pieces of music.
Background: Youngest daughter of the second line of royals one would think there were be few expectations, but that would not be the case for the young Princess. From the day she was born expectations, realistic and unrealistic, were put forth on the child as her father expected his family to be the next royal family. And while most of the focus was on her oldest brother, Stephane, as a daughter the ideal of being a perfect princess was instilled into her being. There was no hiding the fact her father’s goal would be to marry her off to who was best suited for an alliance. The idea of love, happiness, and other such things were not given as realistic expectations for her future. She would always be wealthy, titled, a mother, and hopefully Martine would be safe were the only dreams offered to her as a young girl. Dutifully in trade for her parents love and affection, what of it there was, Martine gave into the idea of her fate striving to be the best Princess she could be. Although as much as the girl tried the fact she was born a mere mortal would always get in the child’s way so that it blocked the ideal of perfection. It wasn’t truly until her talent for the world of music was noticed that Martine found the self esteem boost and the emotional outlet to truly thrive.
Before she could even comprehend the knowledge of her station in life what the child truly understood was the nature of sound. Before the baby could even talked she hummed made up songs, and played endlessly with sound at all hours of the day and night. At the age of four she was started vocal and piano lessons, and every year that followed the girl seemed to take on an additional instrument. For hours upon hours the child would spend practicing while other children ran off to play, but truly Martine did not mind. Music seemed the only place where she was utterly her own person, and could live in her own dreams…
Out of everyone in her family Martine is the closest to her brother Emile as the two of them seemed to take care of one another as children. The two would protect each other from both Stephane and Benoit’s disapprovals and cruelties. When they were young her brother was the only who was able to pull Martine out of her persona of a princess to allow herself to be just exist as a person. When her brother was sent away to foster with the Camerons was the beginning of a dark chapter in Martine’s life who found herself engulfed by responsibility with even fewer she trusted as a source of escape. Benoit took the opportunity in these years to mold and refine the teenager into what he believed his perfect ideal of a princess was. And any bought of rebellion was met with harsh punishment. Slowly Martine learned it was simply better to obey her father’s wishes than it was to defy him to face the consequences later. Before this Martine used to be much closer to the rest of her family however many likely have noticed the change in the girl into womanhood. She does love all of her family members, and strives to spend time with each of them it is difficult for the Princess to get close to anyone. Mariette is one of the few Martine would consider herself close with other than Emile. She also deeply admires her uncle Jean Luc and has finally been brave enough to ask him to show her how to protect herself.
The girl grew up quickly in this years become more reserved in her emotions, and leaning more on music as her sanctuary. She also became more focused in her studies and was an excellent student in most subjects. Yet, all the pressure put on her by her immediate family did also take it’s toll on the girl as childhood oddity started to reappear in her young adulthood. Martine would occasionally sleep walk as a child, but as a teenager this habit worsened. Many times servants, or guards would find the woman somewhere in the palace wandering or playing the piano was completely asleep. While of course such things were kept secret rumors have floated about the kingdom about the woman’s strange sleep patterns. Thankfully, however the occurrences did seem to taper off some for one reason or another.
When the king announced that his firstborn daughter, Nicolette, would be his heir, the change at first was a relief to Martine thinking that an enormous weight would be lifted off her shoulders, but instead things have only seemed to have gotten worse…

She couldn't help the slight smile, "Divine is a curious choice of words though even for you cousin." Tamara smirked a the man as she watched him still a bit curious on what it was that made him so chipper. Honestly, there had been times she had been the same way, but the turmoil that went on her life had altered that perspective. Yet, for Matthew who had lost a mentor and a friend that night he was still the same way he always was. Tamara did not understand how her cousin did it, but then again he hadn't been there to see the bodies. Pushing such thoughts from her mind the girl nodded at him smiling slightly, "Well, I am, but you sound as though you think me to be some sort of sour puss?"
There was a feigned frown at her tease before the lady dropped it for a smirk instead. Of course they did have things to discuss, but the lady enjoyed their banter too much to alter the conversation just yet. However at his offer her blue eyes glanced back over at him as she pressed the door shut. Of course she had been teasing when she made the suggestion, but it was a very real issue she was needing to deal with. So there was the actual question, did she trust Matthew enough? A smile found it's way on his lips before she nodded, "Well, you could start a list of potentials for me, but I'd rather you not say anything just yet..." Her tone turned bit more serious as her blue eyes watched over him looking for his reaction as she was curious as to what he would say to it. "As much as a I dread the idea of marriage eventually it is a fate that all of us must meet. And mine is...complicated..." The lady did not now if she wanted to reveal the full details just yet, but would for now skirt around the issue.
Now seated back behind her desk the woman rose her brows at his romantic response of seeing the sun and of the city itself before smirking. Part of her wondered if he had spent the night with a lady friend, but the two of them were not close enough yet for her to ask such a thing. "Hmm, sunrises can be very lovely." Picking up her cup of coffee the woman let out a sigh, "As for going easy on you..." She paused deliberately before going to take a long sip enjoying the taste of the warm brew before pulling it from her lips. "Not a chance..." The young Countess winked at her cousin before going to lean back in her chair with a wicked smile. She cleared her throat to begin, "Do you have connections with the Montefiore family?"
