It seemed the excitement from the tournament had affected the young Princess more than she would care to admit as the concept of sleep was escaping her. For an hour or two the lady had found solace in her room playing on her harp, but as the hours went deeper into the night the Princess thought better of keeping those around her awake with her playing. Perhaps a walk in the night air would would bring her a longing once more for the warmth of her bed? Or at the very least calm her restless thoughts that raced through Martine’s mind.
As she quietly left her room and wandered down the halls Martine walked in silence not feeling for the need to call for a guards escort. The palace was heavily secured both inside and out so the Princess felt safe enough to be on her own as she ventured to the gardens. It was in these times the lady was thankful for the distraction both her cousin and brother provided as it gave Martine opportunities to disappear for moments of time she could spend alone. Slender fingers pulled at the edges of the white cloak, that the Princess wore to keep the cool night air at bay, wrapping it closer about her as she wandered down the winding path.
Bright blue eyes looked up at the evening sky admiring the patterning of the stars trying for a moment to pick out the constellations she had read about as a child. As the moonlight danced around her pale cheeks a soft smile crept onto her lips as her memories ventured slowly to thoughts of the past when was a child playing the gardens with her brother and cousins. How she missed those days? The time before all of them had been tainted with the sin of greed and ambition, and when finding a moment to escape the burden of duty had been so much easier.
