Character Name: Bianca Romanov
Age: 36
Gender: Female
Birthdate: July 10th, 1391
City / Region: Altofing, Vasile
House [ Birth, Marriage if applicable ]: Romanov (birth), Reinhart (marriage)
Played by: Gillian Anderson
Appearance:
With brown hair of copper hues, and rare pale blue eyes, she is - or at least was in her youth - a vision. She’s never cared for being the dainty, fragile beauty that other younger women would aim for, those wishing to seat themselves on the Royal seat for example. She has instead valued that she was beautiful enough to have been found a worthy husband, and to be worthy of nobility herself. Bianca shares features with her twin Brett, tall for a woman, slender of build, pale skin. She enjoys wearing just a bit of make up, though not nearly as much as what she has seen by some outsiders - those outside of Vasile.
Personality: Bianca is a cold, calculating woman. Somewhere along the lines of time she missed on what makes women warm, maternal, soft. She is capable of love, though prefers passion because it runs hotter. She prefers to keep her mind running, to see and seize opportunity - to her there’s little worse than laying in wait and waste. One needs to have the courage to go after what they want, and be willing to fail for it. Some things are expendable, or sacrificable for a cause. Not to forget, her family was never the perfect picture of warmth, from whom she learned her ruthlessness.
She has her small hobbies, her social circles, but mostly she’s got a mind on progress. Not necessarily skilled with business, she is the dog nipping at your heels, making sure you are always moving forward. She doesn’t appreciate but doesn’t fight the fact that men rule the world, and instead works with what she has. Bianca was never interested in swords, willfully choosing to learn only what was necessary for some close personal defence, but preferring to rely on the men about her to protect her - aka. do their job.
Bianca is driven most by her desire to be remembered, for being great, or achieving greatness. She will push everyone she can to reach towards their potential, her children non exempt. Her husband will at times restrain her efforts, but she works around him best she can, knowing the limitations of his illness. As a rule, Bianca would not make a move against a friend or family member, lest she thought they might be making one against her, compete against her goals, or threaten her success. Even then, she does not enjoy someone else’s suffering, and does not machinate for the sake of hurting someone.
Specific Skills or Abilities:
- Excellent seamstress
- Good memory for details
- Brave
- Tactical mind
- Patient
Character History: Bianca was born the crying twin of a boy, Brett. From the moment of her birth, two things became evident in her treatment: a sense of entitlement, given their birth to a well placed noble family, and a sense of detachment as her caregivers were more often than not hired staff rather than parents. This of course was no bother to the young girl who knew nothing different, and given the quality of attention and education she received, Bianca was a happy child. She and her twin were not joined at the hip, given gender differences, but certainly turned to each other for validation and emotional stability. Brett was what was “real” in her world, and he was her idol in many ways.
Growing up she shed some of that idolization as she grew more clever and perceptive. She asked many a question and absolutely hated to be barred from finding out what she wanted to know. She asked qustions she was often told was none of her business, or perhaps was nothing a girl ought to be worried about. Something she had to get used to early was a certain level of being dismissed by the elders of the family. She was a girl, thus she would be married off and the trouble of another family, and while she had worth that worth was in keeping those around her happy, not be in the way.
There was obviously some friction there, but Bianca sought solace in the company of other noble born girls. As she herself felt that being a noble put her above the grain by some degree, she rarely associated with commoners. In fact, in her teenage years she was rather cruel towards anyone who wasn’t on her level or higher. Brett was no saint in turn, and the two seemed to feed off of one another. They were perfect angels in things they needed individually to succeed at, but rather pains in the asses in other avenues in order to get the attention they never truly received.
Through her teenage years, there were surprisingly few interests or hobbies that she attached herself to. She did what she needed to do, like some needlework, cooking, basic care giving, as well as excelling in her education, but never seemed to have any one activity she enjoyed to do for herself. By the time Brett got old enough to start his traveling, she found she wanted to do that, and so for a while she got an interest in exploring the “world”. It wasn’t always that their father permitted it, but when he did, she went along with the men, to meet the other Ladies - so was her reasoning. Such travels afforded her to meet a man she would eventually become betrothed to, and later married, Lord Lewis Reinhart, also of Vasile.
It was an eventuality she knew she would one day face, to have a husband and children. Never was it a burning goal, but it was expected and natural, so Bianca did not fight it too hard. If anything, she flirted more so with other men. Immediately upon marriage however, Bianca set to work on making certain her husband aspired to heights, found success among the men and women she had influence with, and succeeded. She would not be tied down to a loser, but here was a man who would be Count shortly, and eventually she hoped he would be Duke, even if it took the title away from her birth family. She would make sure the Romanovs were still powerful… but she wanted the title and income for herself.
Of course the new couple set to conceiving children right away, but her first born died shortly after childbirth. This enraged Bianca, and saw in turn the birth of her more violent or cold streak. She felt the world had cheated her, taken something away from her, for the first time. She blamed everything for her baby boy’s death, and frankly was never the same afterwards. She did not even want to continue trying to have any more children, despite her husband’s more gentle attempts. Eventually his patience ran out however, and Bianca did become pregnant again. This time it was for the birth of a baby girl.
Unfortunately for Emely, the newborn, Bianca couldn’t help but compare her to her deceased young. Neither was she a boy, which was what they needed - an heir - but she was healthy and perfect, without flaw. She did her best as a mother, but not having had much of an example herself, she left the task mostly to a wet nurse and other household staff. Same could be said of her second born, though she found it easier to love Ilsy. What seemed to lift her heart, redeem her spirit, was the birth of her young boy. In a way, she found it as some redemption from the Gods. She returned to visiting the temples, even going so far as donating quite a bit of her time and money to them and making an impression on the local people.
The years passed as she watched her children grow, her husband find illness, and the feeling of “running out of time” started to rise. She knew that if she didn’t make moves soon, all would be lost, her children would remain those of the Count’s, rather than a Duke’s, and perhaps even worse so if her husband’s illness somehow managed to screw things up. Her brother in law’s meddling had become more pronounced, and her daughters rebelling against her wishes have always made it difficult for her to find them the highest of prospects. She holds her hope in her one weakness, her son, that one day he would be Duke. With the current turmoil and recent murders among her family, she believes she might find a silver lining in it all, mixed in with her odd sense of grief and vengeance.
Writing Sample: She swiftly made her way forward to come greet first her father. Gathering her skirts to move more adeptly, she paused only before him and gave a bow. "Good morning, my Caliph, father."
Amirah, like her sisters and Inayla, was not wearing her veil. Instead it was lowered to her neck. She rose then if uninterrupted to serve a greeting to the others, first Bashir. "Good morning, brother," and then to Sabriyah and the other women. She did not question with her eyes what this was all about, though she felt much as to ask her if she knew. "Good morning, Sabriyah, Leilah, Inayla. I hope the morning finds you well." She gave a small smile then drew herself to the side. She could see from there all the food and it grew hunger in her belly but she knew matters of business came first.
