The previous evening was everything she had truly hoped for: good company, excellent music, fabulous dancers and a couple of pieces of gossip that she was sure to interest Flavia. Working for the families interests did not completely penalise her even if it resulted in her being cynical about the world around her. Marriage was not something she dared crave for, fearing its suffocating influence. Independence she embraced like a lover.
Being at her family’s home made her heart ease, eradicating at present the irrational feelings deep within her soul. Everyone around her she loved indiscriminately. Though her favourite by far was Flavia who was more than simply a blood sister, she always welcomed into her heart Leona. Very different from her own circumstances, Leona was married with children. Though she could not comprehend such a predicament in her own life, at least at the present, she could understand the different ties that bound the young woman. Sometimes she felt as though she was not as close to her as she had used to be. At times, she was so absorbed in everything else that she had not spoken properly to her since she returned. This in itself was a travesty.
Casually her vision turned towards the window. Absorbed in her feelings she had not noticed Leona below. As if waking up from a dream, she cursed her own sleep deprivation and stupidity. Wishing to rectify her long absence, she proceeded to move in speed to her destination. She could just see in her mind now, quietly observing the children running precariously about in the gardens. With a quickening pace, she rushed her small feet down the cold stone stairs, taking care not to trip upon her dress. Once she had reached the opening to the luscious garden that could rival Eden, she slowed her pace.
Slowly taking a deep breath in, she embraced the fresh air. The warmth basked her pale face momentarily forming a smile upon her luscious lips. Growing in size when she realised that she was almost upon her target, her eyes seemed to glisten in love. “We do not spend quite so much time as we ought to. How neglectful of me.” Not knowing if Leona had noticed her before she approached, she simply awaited for what she was to say. Anything on this fine day would have pleased her musically tuned ears.
