Centuries ago, this clan made their home in the mountain of Vulcanis. When the volcano blew, threatening the lives of all, the family moved north, settling in the western mountains of what is now Shelbourne. There was food and water aplenty, and the hills and highlands reminded them of home. Over the years, they made a comfortable life and, after others moved back home, the family decided to stay. The Gardiners gave them land to work and allowed them to stay in their mountain home, which became known as Marlowe.
Years passed in which the Camerons, as they’d come to be known, honed their skills and herds. It wasn’t long until they became known for the fine sheep and cattle they raised, and of course, the dogs which assisted them in the herding of their fine animals. The leather they produce is some of the finest, always soft and supple, and their tanners are some of the most skilled. High quality wool is also produced from their herds of sheep, which they also use in their weaving and making of fabrics. They also raise their cattle and some sheep for meat, though nothing is wasted. They use everything from fur to skin to horns, frowning on waste.
However, the good times couldn’t last forever, and soon the plague hit. The Gardiners found themselves falling to the disease, leaving themselves open for invasion or attack and many unable to work the fields or produce food. The Camerons, however, found themselves oddly resilient. Loyal as the dogs they raise, the Camerons quickly came to the aid of their liege, offering assistance in the form of food, clothing, soldiers, and even workers to till the fields. Soon, they also found themselves extending their assistance to the neighboring Vasilean duchy, doing what they could to help.
Not long after that, they found themselves as part of the kingdom of Archades. Not ones to swear fealty quickly or easily, they are still unsure of their Deveraux rulers, but they serve the Duke of Shelbourne with unwavering loyalty. They often keep to themselves, but when the need arises, they will answer the call. Once their trust is earned, which is difficult and generally one must prove themselves to them, they will do anything asked of them.
A hardy bunch, they are often easy going and friendly. They can be rowdy at times and do enjoy a good ale on occasion, but they can always be counted on in times of need. The Camerons like to have a good time, but they are also hard workers and typically are found working in the fields beside the commoners, tilling land and herding. They don’t stand on ceremony and are very laid back, though custom and tradition are important to them. However, due to their love of meads and ales, they’ve also come to be known for them, and they enjoy them whenever they can.
Camerons are typically a stout group, often being of a more sturdy build. Most of it is usually muscle, but not always. They are usually medium to tall in height. Their red hair sets them apart and they usually have light colored eyes of blue, green, or hazel. Their skin is generally fair, though many are tanned from their time outside, and it is not rare for them to have freckles, which only multiply in the sun for many.
