This had to be longest Arturo had ever spent in one location. If it wasn’t, it certainly felt that way. The man was a merchant and the only way he could make money is by trading. Certainly, he could conduct business within Bordelaix, but there were only so many merchants that suited his particular needs. Arturo was a seller of items luxuriant after all and that could be a niche market at times. However, he eventually supposed that a city that held most of the kingdom’s nobles could be a good opportunity.
Bah, he needed to get out of the city. There were only so many excuses that he could offer himself: he was bored, he was restless, and he needed to get out. As tempting as it was to simply grab his horse and hit the road, he had a good feeling that Niccolo and Elena would not appreciate such a move. To that end, he would have to find another means of distraction. Business could only be so satisfying and stealing luxury items was not an option either, and so…
He indulged in more personal pursuits. The Lady Daniela (or should he say Savarese?) had seemed to enjoy herself at the horse race, despite the political backbiting and whatnot. Arturo was also keenly aware of her understandably morose nature. The man saw a perfect solution! She needed to be distracted by her mourning and he needed to escape the doldrums of the city. What a beautiful coincidence that the Harvest Festival was just starting.
Certainly, they could enjoy what the city had to offer, but there was so much more to Bordelaix than that. The capital was surrounded by seemingly sleepy villages, but Arturo knew from experience that they could be the liveliest. Nobles were all so very worried about appearances and propriety, but not commoners. No, it was Arturo’s firm opinion that the commoners were the ones that truly knew how to have a good time.
Thus, he told Daniela to dress simply. Certainly, wear a dress, but he informed her she was not going out to impress noblewomen. Indeed, the man was playing mum as they rode out of the city together in the evening sun, cutting through the landscape that was awash in its particular orange beauty. A village was up ahead and already the music had started. “Time for something different, I wager.” A rakish grin flashed over to her.
