The conversation with Caterina left Elena more than concerned; she felt it would take more than her efforts to restore peace between the sisters. There was someone in the house who was, in her opinion, uniquely suited to assist in that regard, someone to whom Caterina would instinctively listen when advice was dispensed. Niccolo's cousin Piero, a priest of the Triune.
Informed that the good priest was most often to be found down in the Lotus Quarter at the small chapel of the Triune there, the Duchess called for one of the ducal guards to accompany her into the city. She felt a sudden need to succor her soul and in doing so, enjoy a private word with Piero to entreat his intercession. Elena knew of his excellent relationship with Joanna, but hopefully Piero enjoyed similar ties with Caterina. That her sister in law was hurt and angry by the apparent betrayal, she understood, but at the same time, she also knew that Cat wasn't precisely an innocent victim.
If this family was to be kept whole prior to Joanna's departure for Anzio or wherever Cesare intended to sail after Yule, then action needed to be taken. Elena was a woman who did not sit back and wait, but took the initiative herself, dismounting once they'd reached the chapel and handing her reins to the guard. She instructed him to wait, that she would be inside the chapel, then would emerge after confession and talking with Piero. The man nodded, keeping a watchful eye out while his Duchess entered the quiet chapel.
Drawing off her glove, Elena dipped her finger in the well, then made the sign of the Triune before slipping into the shrouded alcove that allowed for private confession. She had a feeling Piero might have already heard of her presence and come to shrive her soul himself...
