Well, perhaps there was a little mockery behind the words, but it was meant good-naturedly. The prospect of watching the play as it unfolded before them held considerable appeal as a subtle form of entertainment in the weeks and months to come; the courtships were beginning to stir within the court, resulting in pairings that Nicolette did not anticipate but found intriguing. "It is a very good reason, and I know I may rely upon you in this, Carlotta," her blue eyes twinkled with mischief at her friend and lady in waiting.
To her way of thinking, there were few people more in the know than Carlotta Deliambre. The woman knew everyone, was seen everywhere and took in everything, from what the Crown Princess could tell. She counted herself a most fortunate woman to have Carlotta's loyalty and friendship, knowing she would be far worse off for its lack.
She blinked when Carlotta's hand rested on hers, listening before she burst out laughing. The answer was so quintessentially Carlotta, so undeniably uncaring of scandal and gossip... and terribly, deliciously tempting. "A bit formal, but quite attractive. It seems a shame that none of the men in the family are wed, though there is the duke himself," her fingers tapped pensively on her lady's, not that Nicolette was about to lose Carlotta to anything so prosaic as marriage any time soon, regardless of the Deliambre lady's skills that would make her a fine Duchess.
The brows furrowed at the question, then she was distracted. Delamara? Interesting. "What are your thoughts on Lady Clara? And there is a Fontaine floating about who might serve as well."
