Character Name: Amaury Beaumont
Age: 28
Gender: Male
Birthdate: July 4th, 1399
City / Region: Sauveterre, Faucheux
House [ Birth, Marriage if applicable ]: Beaumont
Played by: Todd Lasance
Appearance:
Amaury is an average height, athletically muscular man who has kept his body in good shape with constant practice of all sorts. He has an immune system to boast - if such a thing was known science - hardly ever getting sick, no matter what he eats or where he goes. His blue eyes have swooned more than one woman, and always seems full of mischief, but what is undeniable is the intelligence they also suggest. With blonde curly hair, he seems more at home either in his mother’s clan or his Ducal Lords - the Deveraux, but it suits him well. He enjoys neatly maintained facial hair, hair sometimes long enough to tie back, and he often under-dresses for the weather as he runs naturally warm. His favourite colour for clothing is green, though he is far from fussy. Rare, however, will he be caught without gem or jewel of some sort.
Personality: Born the heir of a noble, wealthy family, Amaury has had many opportunities over the years which have molded him into the man he is today. A spoiled, tantrum-prone child has grown into a thoughtful, patient man. Though far from perfect, Amaury strives to make a change and leave his mark in the world. His goals align with seeing peace restored to Archades, to see Bordelaix succeed under the new succession, and to see his family and city prosper. He hopes, under his rule, Sauveterre will continue to soar to heights unlimited, and thus Amaury comports himself strictly. He expects to be Count, he expects to become father to young of his own, he has a plan for his life and he’s not scared of responsibility. Certainly the man has much growing left to do, mistakes to make, but at least he tries to find role models and takes his position seriously.
Specific Skills or Abilities:
— Negotiations
— Animal husbandry (cats)
— Experience on ships
— Good sense of direction/navigation
— Honourable
— Adaptable
Character History: First born of a family of four children, Amaury was gifted with the gender of male, and of a gentle birth. These details contributed to the young boy believing that crying loud and long would grant him his every wish, and for some things the method worked, but his parents were certain to try to keep a firm hand on the otherwise rambunctious child. He did as any boy might do, harassing his tutors and siblings, chasing the cats, playing with toy swords and small bows, commanding around the poor servants, and sitting in (impatiently) on his father’s meetings.
It was by the time that he became old enough to be given responsibility that Amaury started to settle down and mature. Though “mature” might be a stretch for a boy of twelve, but the idea of having his own cat, one he would name and feed and bathe and train and care for, was incentive enough to remind him to behave, to quiet down, to sit and settle. He found friendship in his cousins, took better interest in the material his tutors sought to install in him, and of course spent much of his time at the family’s cattery.
Adolescence passed with a string of flirtations, from common girl to tavern wench to passing noble. Again his desires and imagination took over the young man’s mind, leading him to make decisions based off impulse rather than thought. He explored what there was to be learned about one’s body, and even faced the reality of procreation when one of his concubines gifted him with a daughter. He being too young to understand how to parent, never mind the incompatible class difference, Amaury did not keep the child with him - though he did take responsibility for her welfare and continues to do so to this day.
Approaching his twenties and finding that the hadn’t accomplished half of what he’d hoped, realizing that this would only come to pass on his active participation, Amaury with the help of his father arranged for him to spend some time at sea. His family having good trade relations with the island south and west of Faucheux, he embarked on a vessel also crewed by an uncle of his, and spent the better part of three days on some voyage or other, with only time for holidays and some rest in-between. He enjoyed the experience largely, but understood that it was only a manner of gaining some perspective and understanding, not something he could or would do for the rest of his days.
It was during his twenties that Amaury chose to make an appearance at Court. He was always curious of the Royal Family, having met them sporadically throughout the years and felt them rightful rulers and a family worthy of respect if only due to their relationship as vassal to House Deveraux. More so, he wanted to know of their concrete plans, how they would move the realm forward, how they would handle House Sandoval and those who felt the need to contest the Deveraux claim. He was curious about how the King’s daughters would weather the inevitable succession of the crown when it came, and whether it would pass to Benoit Deveraux or even his eldest son, Stephane.
He found friendship in Nicolette Deveraux, eldest daughter of His Majesty, and for a few years has endeavoured to maintain an honest working relationship with her. Though the idea of marriage had crossed his mind, he knew that marrying him gained her no ground, and in any case he was capable of maintaining a professional connection. He has supported her claim when her name was put forth - surprisingly - as heir apparent, and was only proud to be with his father who gave his oath when the time came. With trouble brewing about the city, he feels protective of it just as he would with Sauveterre, believing their fates to be somewhat tied, and as is natural for his house, Amaury holds a deep belief that a middle ground, a truce, or better a peace could be found between Sandoval and Deveraux in the name of Archades.
Writing Sample: The hour was very early, so much so that Sinead rather doubted that anyone else was awake, serving girls and boys included. She had to get up - again - to relieve herself in that frequency that is a plague to pregnant women. She did so as quietly as she could without waking her husband whose mind was troubled enough as it was during the day that she needn't disturb his sleep. With bladder empty, for what precious time that might last, she wrapped herself in something warm and heavy and went to sit by the window.
The birds had started to flee for the upcoming season, mild as it was in comparison to other regions of the realm. It was too early to hear their singing voice even though she could hear their daily chime in her head. Sinead reached for the quilt she had been working on, determined to do just a bit of it every time she woke and could not sleep. This way, by the time the baby arrived, its first gift would be ready. She had prepared a quilt for each of her young, and it was a tradition she felt she needed to continue now.
The action soothed her. It allowed her to calm her frayed nerves, to turn off her wandering mind, to relax her body just long enough that she could sometimes yawn and return to bed where the warm body of her husband usually lay. Other mornings, she remained awake and if necessary would succumb to a nap in the noon hours where the sun was the hottest which made labouring outside the least convenient. Deft fingers wove her thick needle in and out, applying the first edge of the next piece to the design, never once pricking her skin, the rhytmn distracting her from the fact that she was not the only one awake in the room as she thought.
