Character Name:
Kattalin Ibarra
Age:
22
Gender:
Female
Birthdate:
City / Region:
Gilboa, Estersea
House [ Birth, Marriage if applicable]:
Ibarra
Played by:
Jenna Coleman
Appearance:
Long, rich chocolate brown hair and matching eyes in a face of porcelain, Kattalin is of slightly below average height and blessed with an undoubtedly feminine figure. She dresses in bold colors and soft, rich fabrics that flow around her with every move she makes. She has long cultivated a deceptively sweet smile and an innocent look, a gentle, musical voice and grace. Much indulged by her older brother, Kattalin could rival many a lady of the royal court for her attire.
Personality:
Kattalin, or Katie as those dear to her call her, is a girl of multiple faces and no one is quite sure which is the real girl. To some, she is the epitome of sweet innocence; to others, she is a calculating and manipulative witch. To still more people, she is a mystery, but to her brother, she is just his little Katie and always will be.
Around Zorion, Kattalin is gentle, well-mannered and gracious. No one has more influence or control over her than he does. And those who have seen some of her more sharply faceted masks are astonished by the abrupt change in her demeanor when she is in her brother's presence. Perhaps that is why the two are so seldom parted. In many ways, Zorion is all that Katie has left after misfortune and fate robbed them of the majority of the Ibarra family. Lede, her older sister, has not returned to Estersea for years and is more stranger than sibling to her.
She has one very dear friend in Rosalinda Sandoval, who was fostered with them for several years. Zorion was married at the time, so Katie could not hope for a marriage, but in the confident, beautiful and regal Sandoval woman, there is a truly kindred spirit. They have the same outlooks and standards; Rosa is very much her best (and in some regards, only real) friend.
The truth is... no one is really sure what the truth of Kattalin is, not even herself. She is struggling to find her way, and herself, taking one day at a time. So long as no one comes between Zorion and her, she is content.
Specific Skills or Abilities:
- skilled linguist
- able to use spears and knives to defend her person
- sailing skills
Background:
Born nine years after Zorion, seven years after Lede, Kattalin was the last child that Ekaterina would bear. The apple of her mother's eye with her abundance of dark hair with eyes to match, she swiftly attached herself to her sober, contemplative older brother. From Zorion's hands, Kattalin took her first steps, to her brother she brought her discoveries and looked for his approval. Ximon was distant from his youngest child; her father was in many ways a tall, brooding stranger who was at a loss to deal with his insatiably curious, all seeing youngest child. He left the girl-children to Ekaterina, trusting that the female parent would suffice, but Kattalin was not so easily controlled, especially after Ekaterina's death.
She was a handful from the time she learned to talk. Despite being a relatively easy baby, Kattalin was a challenging toddler and child - willful, independent, headstrong and defiant after her mother's death until her nursemaids and governesses were nearly at their wits' end with trying to compel appropriate behavior from her. Governesses scolded, Ximon threatened, Lede pleaded; Kattalin ignored them all. Zorion merely looked at her sternly, and instantly, the child who seemed possessed by the devil himself turned into an angel. It was uncanny. From that day forward marked a significant change in Kattalin; understanding that she would be denied access to her brother, she had to comply with the instructions given to her. She went from being a dervish to a somewhat normal little girl.
As time went on, Lede was wedded away from Gilboa, and Rosalinda Sandoval arrived, bringing with her new kinds of sophistication and confidence for the young girl. The two became fast friends, but eventually, Rosalinda had to return to Nacimiento, leaving Kattalin with Ximon and the woman who would briefly become her brother's wife. While she was never friends with Maria, neither did Kattalin wish ill on her, grieving over the loss of the child, and thereafter their father. Where she had needed Zorion to function, now she could return the favor. Showing a rare core of strength for her brother's sake, Kattalin matured, standing beside him to keep Gilboa standing against the political waves that buffeted their region.
Now twenty-two, she has not yet married and shows little inclination to do so; marrying means leaving both Gilboa and Zorion, something that Kattalin simply refuses to do. So long as he needs her, she will be there, marriage and the world be damned.

My dearest Lady Gwynevere,
Your letter was the purple gift the day brought me, and brightened it considerably. Thank you so much for the dried flowers, and to be sure I shall begin draughting the remedies for testing and development immediately.
The summer in Vanderhall passes pleasantly, though with an unexpected excitement this year. The Romanovs are currently playing host to the four Princesses of Archades and their entourage. Already there has been a great feast and a dance, and Lady Claudia has planned a night of gaming for tomorrow with Lord Romanov. Much of June and the first two weeks of this month have been spent in a flurry of preparations, of which I was blessedly little involved. This comes on the heels of the recent visit of the Gardiners as well, and they too are still here at the Duke's request.
