With Nicolette came her Claviger escorts, but that did not bother Amaury at all. If anything, he was happy for this change of pace, to get to socialize with a friend and realize that he didn't have to win the competition to win the prize. Nicolette as a woman and person was not the prize, not in the sense of possession, but rather her company and time were valuable and he had gotten that if nothing else.
They had gandered along into the woods, with Amaury mentally calculating whether they aught to try smaller game or whether it would be an appropriate challenge to seek the impressive and elusive higher prizes. He hadn't brought his own hounds from home, even if they were one of the nearest Houses to Bordelaix, he had a whistle tuned for just the thing, and in partnering with Nicolette had access to whatever she and the Knights had equipped themselves with.
They were in the middle of a conversation, subdued in sound though not in interest by his part, while his eyes and ears were otherwise alert for the motions that would betray a nearby prey.
"But really, that merchant was awful. I don't see how on earth he managed to win the beer tasting competition, and must have bought off the judges so to speak. I myself tried quite a few varieties far more excellent than that ill-flavoured water..." he was complaining about the festivities he'd taken part of in the Vendors Court, just earlier this week.
Just then, he thought he saw movement and signalled for the group to quiet with a wave of his hand - though without truly thinking he was shushing the future Queen of his realm.
