The Royal Feast was scheduled for tomorrow night, hosted by the Crown Princess and her sisters. It promised to be quite a night, though perhaps not for reasons obvious to many. The preparations were well under way in the largest dining room where a hive of servants were diligently at work to follow the plans laid out in minute detail. The kitchens were bustling as well, the menu's offerings in various stages of completion.
For one such servant, the chaos of the preparations was tailor made to the purpose laid upon him. He had a task to perform, a very specific task that would restore the natural order of life in Archades. Taking advantage of the constant comings and goings, he set about following the instructions given to him by the seneschal for the place settings. The crates and baskets that he used to carry the items allowed him to conceal the specially anointed items that were to be given to those on a list he committed to memory and then burned. Fortune smiled on him as the cards bearing the guests' names were already placed on the table to indicate who was to sit where, ensuring that no mistakes were made. Those who were meant to receive the items, would.
He worked quickly and efficiently to avoid drawing attention to himself, his hands deft and precise in their placement of each item in the place setting. Grateful that he'd been instructed to don gloves to prevent smudges, he did not have to concern himself with any accidents in handling the items. His head was bowed over his work, adding to the impression of diligence, such that he nearly laughed when the seneschal praised him.
Murmuring his thanks, he hastened to finish, the better to make good his departure before anyone realized that he was not a servant and ought not to be in the palace at all. As he set the crates down to be returned to the pantries, heading off to report back to his erstwhile employer that all was in readiness, he allowed himself a small, sly smile. It was going to be quite a feast... he almost wished he would be present to see the plot unfold.
