As the Vasile tribes peopled the north, the Deveraux family traces its lineage back to the earliest days of the lands, long before it was the Kingdom of Archades. Originally living in the Vulcanis region, they were the first Kings of the area, dividing their attentions between mountains, valleys and the sea to make a good, strong life with their clanspeople.
Time went on, the population growing and expanding north when the time of the volcano’s eruption came, devastating the valley clans and sending many of the mountain people to seal themselves inside their caves. They eked out a grim living for nearly three years before the lands were considered safe to occupy again, coming out to find that others had settled in the lands.
The people directly to the north, the Gardiners, wanted only peace as well, eager to trade. Accepting the boundaries as a given, there were few to no conflicts with these westerners, trade flourishing between them. The Gardiners also served as intermediaries between the clans in the south and the Vasile tribes, keeping the western portion of the lands at relative peace and prosperity before the raids to the north brought the two northern regions into the fold of the new-formed Kingdom under Sandoval rulership.
The Sandoval king turned his sights to the two southwestern regions, meeting strong resistance from the clans there. However, reinforced by the eastern regions, the clans were soon forced to bend their knee to him, taken in to the Kingdom’s lands. Resentment remained strong for generations, waiting for just the chance to either break away or assert control themselves over the usurping foreigners. As a means of seeming conforming, the clans took the name Deveraux.
Their chance did not come until nearly two hundred years ago, when the Sandoval King failed to bring forth a male heir. Seizing the opportunity, they made alliances with the Vasile families, House Gardiner and House Deliambre to use marriage to retake the throne. Though few to none could prove it, there were careful assassinations that weakened the Sandoval hold over Archades.
The heir to Deveraux, a calculating young man, presented himself as a potential suitor to the Crown Princess, wedding her and planning that their son would be the first of a new generation of Deveraux kings. Supported by the three Houses, they asserted their control, exiling the remaining Sandovals to the northernmost region and calling upon Vasile and Estersea to keep them contained.
Restored to their rightful place, the clans of Deveraux have slowly and surely worked to reclaim what was theirs, instituting a strong rulership. Their ways have taken precedence over all, encouraging their monotheistic worship and customs over others. Unfortunately, they find themselves in a precarious position - the current King finds himself lacking a son to take the throne, instead cursed with four daughters who are not, in his opinion, suited or strong enough to rule. For the first time since reclaiming the throne, the Deverauxs are at risk of losing everything they have fought to keep.
The people of the clans and Deveraux share physical characteristics. They are tall, the men are strongly, solidly built and the women have well-developed figures. Rarely, one is born on the slender side. Blond hair is predominant in House Deveraux. It is very rare for a non-blond to be born to House Deveraux. Most have blue or green eyes, though occasionally, a child with brown eyes emerges. They are strong-willed, fierce and intelligent people, fighters with word and steel.
