The week had been full of bad news. First finding out that Stephane was murdered, left for dead in the sewers of the Lilac Quarter, then the news that Mariette was abducted from Vanderhall by the scheming Prince of Lindblum. Juliette struggled to cope with the latter far more than the former; she wasn't entirely sorry that her cousin was gone, though she hadn't precisely wished him dead. Still, it was a shock to the system to learn where his body was discovered.
She took to the gardens, wanting the peace and relative solitude found there while the rest of the court partook of the evening meal. The youngest Deveraux wasn't hungry, instead wanting a chance to sit quietly and think on things. Maybe even have a quiet little talk with the Architect - she was hardly devout enough to call it praying! - and ask Him to keep her sister safe, if not help bring her back home where she belonged. Mariette's dog Ivo padded along beside her, as he'd done nearly every day since Mariette left for Vasile.
Juliette promised faithfully to look after the large white dog for her sister, knowing Ivo would miss his little mistress terribly. He was a good companion, and so too was his night-black counterpart, though Noir typically preferred to spend his days asleep on her bed. She expected no less of a cat. Ivo, however, followed her like a shadow, occasionally pressing his cool, wet nose into her hand to ask where Mariette was. When she'd heard that her sister had been taken, admittedly she'd cried into his soft fur, using it to muffle her very real fear for Mariette's safety.
Now she sat on a bench with the great white dog sitting at her feet and leaning on her legs. Juliette absently stroked the head he laid on her lap, her eyes gone distant with thoughts and reflections while the stars began to appear overhead. Maybe she was too old to wish on stars... but it couldn't hurt.
