Originally derived from House Montefiore, House Deliambre was formed in the wake of the volcanic eruption and the subsequent evacuation of the region. Upon returning from the north, a rift developed between Lorenzo Montefiore and his twin brother Antonin that could not be reconciled without the intervention of the Sandoval lord. Under his influence, the brothers and their respective factions agreed to part ways; Antonin adopted his mother's maiden name as his own, leading his faction further south to settle in the region now known as Calandria.
Determined to be as unlike his Montefiore counterparts as possible, Antonin encouraged logic, reason and cool-headed calculation among his people. Colonies were established in precise fashions, growing as circumstances and successes permitted. The reputation among the Deliambre as long-term planners and promoters of the future was thus established, along with the slow, but steady progress of taming Calandria to their hands.
Discovering the wealth of agricultural products to be found in the citrus trees, the Deliambre settlers also began to experiment with growing rice and exotic spices, as well as tea. Though the lands were too humid and low for good wines or the grains to brew ales, the proximity to citrus trees made apiaries a natural progression; from there, the leap to mead was all but assumed. In addition, the abundance of humidity-resistant trees led to the development of new ships and shipwrighting.
The slow, steady surge of the region as a naval power made the Deliambres attractive as allies to the Deveraux clans in their bid to reclaim the throne. Unlike their Montefiore cousins, the Deliambres accepted the Deverauxs' argument regarding their prior stake on the claim, especially in light of their growing friendship with the northern regions and the mounting ambition. Striking a deal where control over the Royal Navy would shift into Deliambren hands, the southernmost House cast their lots in with the Deveraux, rewarded for their loyalty and keeping the feud with Severino burning bright.
The passage of time since the removal of the Sandovals has proven profitable for the Deliambres. They are a strong house of sailors and growers living in a region where a person's worth is seldom decided by gender. Instead, the Deliambres are forward-thinking, allowing women (unlike their Montefiore cousins) to hold land and title, to stand as leaders on and off the battlefield. Family remains paramount, as does their loyalty first to their Duke, then to their King.
On a physical level, the Deliambres are tall and slim, often with light or medium brown hair and blue or green eyes. They are notoriously calm under pressure, possessed of unruffled, serene exteriors and icy demeanors when angered. Furthermore, they are known for being expert archers, and skilled swordsmen, whether men or women.
