In the time since her cousin Daario 'found' her in the abbey on Nyther Isle, Euria felt as if she'd gone non-stop without a halt in sight. Taken from the only place she truly called home in some years, she'd been swept off to the kingdom capital, reunited with cousins who were largely strangers to her, and whisked into a world she was barely adjusting to. Not only that, but she was already betrothed to a man with whom she'd scarcely exchanged twenty words, even during their betrothal dinner.
That part needed to change, Euria told herself firmly. It would cost her dearly in courage, yet she was not about to go to her marriage as imperfect strangers with Michel Blackthorne. She could, and more importantly, would make an effort to become better acquainted with her betrothed; if she was truly fortunate, they might forge a path into a kind of friendship. To hope for love was sheerest folly and guaranteed disappointment, yet Euria wished to be on relatively comfortable terms with Michel, to see if they could share an easy companionship on which to build their future.
Hoping he felt the same, she sent a note inquiring if Michel was free to join her for a walk through the city's public gardens. The location seemed adequately neutral, as Daario's opinion of the Deveraux family made the palace gardens highly inappropriate. That sent, Euria took some time with her appearance, wrapping a light cloak about herself as she set out with a guard to the indicated meeting point to wait and see if her betrothed would arrive. She was trying to correct her priorities, the better to ease some of Daario's burdens.
