The more Daniela thought on the idea of approaching Lord Montefiore to petition for his cousin's hand in marriage, the more she liked it. She needed a husband sooner rather than later, and she was hardly one to fuss over being left alone for weeks at a time while Arturo continued to pursue his merchant trade. Adding her wines to his list of available luxury goods made good financial sense for both of them, and further bound the Savareses to the Montefiores as vassals through the tie of blood via her children. In fact, the youthful Countess felt that the Duke might find the prospect very appealing indeed.
She was taking a risk, of course, approaching Niccolo with no more than a casual, teasing conversation on the subject between Arturo and herself, but nothing ventured was nothing gained. Daniela accepted that the entire plan could very well blow up in her face, but that did not stop her from seeking an audience with Lord Montefiore at his convenience to discuss a matter of mutual interest.
Apprised that the Duke would see her that morning, she took care with her appearance, dressing in crimson-trimmed winter white. Her dark hair was dressed sedately, and the Count's signet ring rested on her left hand. Daniela arrived promptly, long since taught that timeliness was a sign of respect for her liege. A quick glance about the Montefiore home did not immediately reveal Arturo's presence, granting her a little relief - she didn't want him to suspect anything until she spoke with His Grace and heard his decision.
A nod thanked the majordomo as the man invited her to be seated in the hall while he advised the Duke of her presence, waiting until His Grace summoned her. While she waited, Daniela continued composing the somewhat outrageous plan she was about to unveil, wanting to speak clearly, concisely, and most importantly, convincingly. This was beyond important.
