A scant day's time after those held by Prince Benoit were freed, Euria found herself on the road to the east and the harbor. Lord Blackthorne decided that it was better to get some of his family out of Bordelaix in light of unfolding events and on their way back to Oria. Accordingly, as he'd been entrusted with the safety of his brother's betrothed, that journey would go by way of Cervo so that Euria and her aunt were reunited with their family.
Frankly, Euria and her aunt both were more than pleased to depart the city. The time in Bordelaix was a mixed bag of good and bad, though privately, Euria leaned more towards the negative side. Too much had happened for ill for her peace of mind, leaving her more than ready to return to Estersea. They were to board a ship that would sail the large bay north, then resume traveling by land to Cervo. The Blackthornes would then continue on to their home county of Oria until the agreed-upon time for the wedding. Michel would travel with them as well, she was informed.
They departed in the chill of pre-dawn, riding quietly out of the city and along the highway with a delegation of guards to ensure they traveled swiftly. Euria shivered, whether out of cold or wariness, she could not say, and drew her cloak more closely about her. She was not the best rider, but her aunt stayed close beside her to offer guidance and keep company as the hours and miles ticked past.
After several hours, the city well in their wake, the party moved off the road to dismount, partake of a brief meal and allow for time out of the saddle. Euria was grateful to stretch her legs, definitely feeling the unusual amount of time in the saddle. Already sore, she sighed, then paused, looking around cautiously.
Had they been followed? She could not help but feel as if someone was watching her...
