Nearly a year's time had passed since the Montefiore family descended on Bordelaix in answer to a royal summons, but in that year, what changes were wrought! The family endured settling a feud, albeit paying a cost in blood and stress, followed by what seemed like scandal after scandal. For the most part, matters had quieted down for the family whose dragon standard served them perhaps too well, making Elena start to wonder what was brewing. The Duchess did not trust too much quiet when passions ran deeply and heatedly in the family's bloodline.
Consequently, she opted to make inquiries in her own subtle fashion. Inviting her sisters in law to join her for a little picnic on the lawn to enjoy the newly blooming flowers and the gentle warmth of the sun, Elena also knew it was time to tell them of another change on the horizon. Niccolo knew first, of course, as was only proper. How he avoided bursting from the pride of it, she had no idea, but braced herself for what would come in six months' time. He was likely to be nigh unbearable.
The thought amused her as she directed the servants to set out quilts and cushions, a low table brought to hold the refreshments to be enjoyed. A hand rested lightly over the subtle curve, still well concealed by her gown. It would not be long before she needed to acquire others to accommodate the forthcoming changes, yet first things first. Elena wanted to know what Cat and Allegra were up to, what their hopes and plans were for the next few months, and what they were feeling about the onslaught of changes at large, and within the household.
Communication could be a great and fine thing, and women did like to talk. She smiled to herself, her thoughts straying to her sister and her tiny niece. Catalina and the baby were finally out of confinement, which meant she could go to see them and shower both with the gifts she'd acquired. First, however, came the Ladies of this House... and all that it meant.
