Until recently, Sir Nicholas Miller had never been rich in terms of coin. But, he had been rich in friends. Friends who helped him learn the archer's trade, one of whom, Cuddy, still served as part of his retinue after the company he had led into Lindblum had been disbanded. He had Tristan, and Salvatore, who helped him get settled into his role as a bodyguard to royalty and then learn what it meant to be a knight. And now, Tory had helped him acquire the trappings of his station now that he had been ennobled and had to become a 'proper' knight. That had included harness, and making sure his fief would be well administered when he wasn't there to do it himself.
Just as it was now, for he had to make his way to see Lord Jean-Luc, and indeed let him know, in person, he was available for service at his pleasure now that he was settled in his lands.
However, he had other business he wished to attend while he was visiting. Since he had left for Lindblum, he hadn't seen Mistress Gabrielle Delacroix. At least, not with any real chance to talk. Things had been uncertain with the throne being usurped, and the Clavigers being dissolved, and everything else that came with it. Even when he now held fief within half a day's brisk ride from where she resided.
Except he had ridden more than just a little briskly, because there was more to do than simply meet his liege lord. There was a chance to actually call in on Gabrielle. And so he did. And, with his horse stabled and after a bath and a change of clothes, he sent his page (a concept with which he was still struggling at times) to see if she was at liberty, and if she was, to ask for the pleasure of her company in the side garden.
