The visit to Lockewood wasn't turning out anywhere near what the Deverauxs or the Gardiners expected, that much was for sure. Mariette wasn't her usual sunny self. Antoinette's sharp tongue was full of barbs and thorns and Nicolette looked tired and strained. Juliette felt like she couldn't take a breath without some-one watching her for some sign of trouble. It wasn't like she'd left Vasile looking to get Mariette, Nick, Sir Tristan and herself attacked by a roving band of criminals, and they had been able to escape unharmed. Scared, sure, but unharmed.
She was trying not to fight against the guards Nicolette insisted she have now. Deciding that she needed to go somewhere, even with the guards, Juliette skipped breakfast and walked towards the gate that led down into the town. She couldn't go exploring as she usually did, but there were parts of the city that had to be safe for her. It wasn't like anyone was going to be out and around this early, except for the knights who were used to her early-bird ways and herself. Even Mariette had taken to rising later, though that was probably an avoidance tactic, one Juliette accepted without arguing.
If she was honest, she was dis-illusioned by the entire trip. Vasile had started out fun, but all of the tension between Nicolette and Marcus spoiled it, and then with Lady Elsa running away unknown to anyone, the attack, and now all of the problems that followed them to Lockewood, she was ready to go home. Juliette knew she wasn't the only one. She felt rather bad for the Romanovs, they were going through a very difficult time. Perhaps she should see if she could find something to cheer all of them up. A new book for Lord Alexander, of course. Something pretty for Elsa... but she had no idea what to do for Wilhelm. She hardly knew the man.
Moving through the streets towards the market, Juliette opted to explore and see what caught her eye. Something unusual. Something different. Something... unique.
