On the way back to the castle, Juliette tried to get her cousin and her sister to laugh and talk but Mariette was still angry and poor Marie-Louise wouldn't raise her eyes from the path they walked. She made a decision right then and there that she was going to try and beat Pierre to Jean-Luc and take on the responsibility for what was nothing more then a harmless bit of fun and a good time. If her uncle was going to yell at anyone, better it was at her. Juliette was used to being scolded, lectured, chastised, and told repeatedly how much of a disappointment she was. What was one more incident?
Shrugging, she split off from them and handed over the wet things to her maid before she went to search for her uncle. The odds that she was going to get there while Pierre was making his report was pretty good, but at least Juliette could defend her cousin, her sister and the other girls right then and there. And yell right back at Pierre for how unkind he'd been to his little sister, knowing how much Marie-Louise idolized her tall, knightly brother. Some-times, the men in the family could just be such brutes! For once, poor little Marie-Louise had come out, had a good time, blossomed a little and now because of Pierre, she was probably going to hide away again. Well, she wasn't going to have that!
Feeling courageous (probably foolishly so), Juliette marched herself up to the room where she was told her uncle was doing some sort of work and boldly knocked on the door. She was walking into the dragon's den with head high, chin tipped up, spine straight and every intention of facing the music. Maybe it would earn her some respect, or maybe it would just be deja vu, but she was here and there was no turning back now.
