Character Name: Bashir ibn Qasim ibn Fahlad al-Khalid al-Rohari
Age: 21
Gender: Male
Birthdate: July 27th, 1406
City / Region: Rohari
House [ Birth, Marriage if applicable ]: al-Khalid
Played by: Borkan al-Gala, Omar
Appearance:
Bashir cares for his appearance in an almost meticulous manner. The man keep his hair and beard at a certain length and particular style. After all, appearances could be almost everything. The man preferred to be garbed in clothing that was practical against the ever present heat of the sun, but he still somehow makes it stylish. Whether he is in a social function or in war, he makes certain this outfit his quite noticed by all. Bashir is determined to be the strongest leader possible for the Rohari, and he fully intends to dress for the part.
Personality:
Bashir is a man as fiery and passionate as the sands from whence he purportedly came. Ever since he could walk, he ran. Ever since he held a blade in his hand, he danced. Ever since he was given his first horse, they were as one and rode across the sands daily. Those who serve with and under Bashir have claimed that the man is akin to the desert itself. That being said, Bashir, like the desert, is not to be taken lightly. However, on the converse, the man has as many of the desert’s weaknesses as strengths.
He is fiercely proud of his country and heritage. That they were able to not only live in the desert but tame it is well convinces Bashir that they are far stronger than people realize. While he believes in the code of honor that have held the tribes together over the course of centuries and decades, he believes that they should not be constrained. The code should only apply to those of the desert. Since others in Archades are not of the sands, they should not be held to the same standard. Indeed, the Rohari are superior in every way, in his opinion. While the duchies, marches and lords of Archades bicker and dither like children in their grassy plains, the Rohari have unified to form an impressive force upon the kingdom. It is their duty to bring this stability to all of Archades.
It is this belief that has fueled Bashir’s innate charisma and leadership. He is easily able to relate to his fellow warriors in the region, encouraging them to great acts of honor and glory. In addition, Bashir possesses a strong tactical and strategic mind, enabling to effectively lead his men in a variety of combat situations. That both bow and sword feel as natural extensions of himself further leads credence to his men. The men under his command will easily follow him into any situation, no matter how dire it may say for they have faith that he bring them out alive.
This is not to say that Bashir is not without his flaws. He has a ferocious temper that rivals any sand storm, especially when his honor or ability are called into question. It is not an uncommon occurrence, especially since many of the elder members of the caliphate voice their concerns over Bashir’s rather strong opinions about the Rohari’s place in the kingdom. To cool down, he will frequently ride out into the desert upon his trusted steed or retire in the company of the more musically capable women. Bashir, not surprisingly, has always been known to be incredibly stubborn though he argues that this dogged nature of his has aided him well in combat in the past.
Despite the hot blood that flows through his veins, he does have a true love for his family and people. Bashir wants nothing but the best for them. It is just that he disagrees with his elders on just what that is. Though Bashir gets in frequent debates with his father on matters of region leadership, the man still respects his father as the elder and leader of the nation… to a point. Fortunately, Bashir fully acknowledges that he has everything in his life thanks to his father’s leadership.
Specific Skills or Abilities:
- Strong in tactics and strategy.
- Strong in negotiation
- Strong use of the bow
- Excellent horseman
- Accomplished dancer
Background:
Bashir was born the eldest son of Qasim which was heralded and cheered upon his arrival into the world. While most would declare that al-Khalid lineage was secure with his birth, Bashir's father was rather pragmatic about these matters. Unfortunate as though it was, children had an unfortunate tendency to pass on before their time due to the harsh nature of the world. Yet, that did not happen with Bashir nor with any of his siblings to follow. Indeed, Bashir had always felt as though he had been blessed by Falik in this regard. It is this very nature of Bashir that came to dictate the paths and roads he chose to follow in the years to come.
From a young age, many remarked how handsome and charming Bashir was. The boy only fed on this quality, lending to it the natural ability of leadership and persuasion. Fortunately, both his parents strove to guide him down the right path when it came to his skills. Indeed, it was impressed heavily upon Bashir that the benefit of the tribe was far more important than personal gain. The wellbeing of the Rohari was to be his future. Throughout the course of his instruction, this theme was repeated. As the years went on, Bashir grew in the areas of sciences, mathematics and leadership.
However, he seemed to initially suffer with martial matters. The matters of strategy and tactics made perfect sense to him and he proved an effective leader in that regard. However, when it came to actually perform the actual acts of combat he seemed to falter. While the man was able to charm and persuade the staunchest man, Bashir seemed to struggle with weapons. Indeed, only the bow seem to come naturally to him. When it came to the pole arm and even the sword, he struggled. Fortunately, he managed to charm his way through training and to this day, no one is the wiser.
Being skilled in matters of the bow and leadership, Bashir was granted his own group of men to lead into the desert while his father tended to matters of leadership. It was while they were on the harsh sands of the Rohari that Bashir learned the true might and ability of their people. Surely a people that could withstand the unforgiving nature of the sands would be truly strong in the rest of the world. It was from his experiences of dealing with bandits and rogue tribe that this idea began to grow. The Rohari were strong. Strength was something to be respected. The Rohari also possessed a truly great culture. With their culture and strength combined, surely the rest of the world would benefit from their leadership.
As such, Bashir began his campaign. Raids were performed with seeming impunity against the lesser people of Archades. Yes, certainly, his father and siblings might disagree… but soon one day, they would see the true might of Rohari and realize that his path is the correct one.
Writing Sample:
The Marshal was a creature of habit, rarely changing his routine for anything or anyone. It was routine that helped maintain some peace of mind, particularly since the death of his wife. He had long since recovered from that loss, but the habits he picked up from the routine died hard. He saw no especial reason to deter from it. After all, it did a wonderful job of keeping him in shape and his skills perfect honed. Though he did not have the versatility inherit in youth, he could still give plenty of younger men a run for their money. Jean-Luc didn't bother denying the pride he took in doing so.
As Jean-Luc approached the training ring, he was somewhat surprised to see the Lord of Shelbourne there, as well. Jean-Luc had no idea that the man was even remotely skilled with the blade, thinking that he was more adept with a tool of harvest than a weapon of death. However, he supposed that swinging a scythe to reap was not all that different than swinging a poleaxe to the same end. As such, he did not deter or slow his steps. "Lord Gardiner," Jean-Luc grumbled at him in greeting.
The Lord Marshal was bedecked in clothing of simple quietly, preferring them for their airy nature and ease of movement. In one hand he held a training poleaxe and in the other, a training broadsword. "I was not aware that you trained."
