Taking a large swig of his mead, Collin perused through some of the latest decrees coming in from Bordelaix. His brow furrowed as some of the things he didn’t quite understand why King Alexandre was implementing. Already there was a ripple of outcry when his eldest daughter was named the inheritor of Archades. He was certain that the irony of only having four daughters had not gone without notice. If anyone could sympathize having a house full of mostly women it was the Delacroix family.
By some right of the Architect’s design, it appeared that the men always had to have two or three daughters before they would inherit a first son. If put a great deal of pressure on any heir who planned to succeed the father since children were often impressed upon the second a male Delacroix held any interest in the opposite sex.
It made him think of his sons in that moment. All of them would eventually have to find the right matches and Collin was equally responsible for helping them find them. Unfortunately he was torn between duty and fatherly sympathy. Collin remembered when he was a boy, how he felt about the whole process. Plus Annaliese was now of age, and he had to find her a proper suitor that would help solidify alliances since things with the Deverauxs were in flux.
As he thought on various options, he folded the parchment papers and set them aside to stroll out onto the balcony from his study. The summers always gave the mountains an air of life and vibrancy that was unparalleled to the rest of Fauchaux. Winters were the harsher seasons, but even the blankets of snow that covered Desrochers during that time was full of beauty as well.
Having left the door to his study wide open, it allowed anyone who wanted to see him complete access to just waltz right in. There were a lot of things to think about, and Collin even humored the idea of seeing if King Alexandre was privy to promising one of his youngest to Wolf. Perhaps Collin would have to finally make a trek out of the mountain towards Bordelaix to see to that arrangement himself.
