Since her return to Lockewood, Annemarie had joyfully reunited with Casper and spent stolen hours in the company of her foster brother talking over their time apart and of their intentions for the present and future. In Casper she confided her hopes not only that she would relocate to Bordelaix and take him with her, but more, that she'd gone and lost her heart and it was not to the heir of Caulfield. No, Annemarie had succumbed to her feelings, developed over time for one Alexander Romanov.
Now it was time for her two favorite men to meet. Annemarie was surprisingly nervous; she wanted almost desperately for Casper to like Alexander. More, she craved his approval of the man whom she intended to claim as her husband over time. Casper's good opinion meant the world to the Gardiner lady, the moreso for intending to see the trio residing within the same home. While she had not yet broached the subject to Alexander pending the initial meeting and interaction, she hoped to persuade Alexander to her plan. Fortunately, her beloved scholar was a man of reason and compassion, one who did not judge swiftly based on name or predecessors.
Inviting both men to meet her in the walled garden for a breakfast picnic where they could meet privately and without concern for interruption, she rose with the dawn, grateful that there was no dew on the grass. True, within the little walled garden, there was an iron-wrought table and chairs to make consuming the meal easier, but there was still arranging to do. Annemarie had previously arranged for a basket to be packed with the kitchens, stopping by to pick it up. She was anxious, struggling to hide it as she practically sprinted through the gardens to one of her favorite places.
The garden was Valentine's creation, one that she kept for her daughter's sake full of sweet flowers and plants with hidden purposes. It was known to be Annemarie's retreat, where she went when needing time and space to think or mourn. Now it was the setting of the most important meeting of her life thus far. Working feverishly, she wanted everything perfect by the time they arrived...
