With the upgrade to Version 5, ProBoards has instituted (finally!) some very helpful tricks that we hope will help make your experience here much easier and more enjoyable. For those who may not be familiar with the inner workings of PB, we've got a guide to help you.
Creating/Linking Accounts:
PB makes this very easy now. Once you've created your OOC name using the email address of your choice, adding accounts is as simple as logging in and clicking on Create Another User Name on the screen after you log in.
When you create your character names, please do not use unusual characters (like accent marks) or spaces. PB does not recognize spaces. You can adjust the appearance after you create the username. There is no limit to the number of user names you can link to your main account. Please make sure that you use the full character name when you create it.
Switching Accounts:
Thanks to V5, you no longer have to log out and back in! To switch accounts, click on the two-person icon in the lower right hand corner of your screen. This will bring you back to your main login screen to choose what user name you want.
Adjusting Your User Preferences:
PB V5 offers quite a few new and helpful features, ranging from your character's relationship status, to your personal user title to protecting your half-written posts. We've highlighted some of the features that may be most useful below:
Changing the appearance of your user name: Click on Profile in the toolbar above, then select Edit Profile. The Personal tab will allow you to alter your Display Name - this is where you can use the accent marks, insert spaces, etc.
Auto-Saving Posts: This protects your post if you have a crash, hit the wrong button, or have a Murphy's Law moment. Select the Settings tab in Edit Profile and click on Yes under Enable Drafts.
Joining a Group: Each character should show their House banner and the character name should reflect the House color. When you click on Profile in the toolbar above, select the Groups tab and find your House. To join a private group, find the player's private group and click to join. That player must approve your joining.
It is possible to join more than one group. However, please make sure that the House group is always listed as the one your character displays. To adjust this, go to Settings under Edit Profile and select your character's House as the Display Group.
Receiving E-Mail Notifications of Replies/Mentions: In order to receive e-mail notifications each time someone tags your character in a post or to receive a daily update of all the threads you're active in, select Notifications in Edit Profile and make your selections.
