True to her word, Kathryn went in search of their Deveraux contemporary, a long-standing friend and lady of her father's court. Evony's father was stationed as the Archadean liaison in the capitol city and hard been for close to twelve years now, allowing the Grand Duke's elder two children to become acquainted with the liaison's children, forging friendships. Kathryn looked on Evony as a friend, according her as one of her greatest friends in fact. They spent a good deal of time together first as girls, now as young women.
Finding Evony during the day when court was not in session could be something of a challenge; Kathryn was not entirely familiar with her friend's typical schedule or habits on a usual day. Starting first in the gallery, she did not spot the fair-haired Deveraux lady among the courtiers milling aimlessly about so directed her steps towards the gardens, aware of her friend's love for the peace found in the heart of the foliage carefully maintained by gardeners and arborists. Her steps were marked by the quiet crunch of gravel under her shoes as she followed the paths that wound in and out of the varied pleasure gardens designed by her father and the long, unbroken line of Grand Dukes as well as their Duchesses. Trusting her instincts, Kathryn headed for the Duchess's Rose Garden, thinking that Evony might be reading under one of the arbors there.
Wishing she'd thought to take a hat against the summer sunshine pouring down, she shaded her eyes with a hand, scanning the area for the pale gold hair that would shine like platinum in the light. They made a marked contrast, teasing each other about being Snow White and Rose Red, an old tale told to Kathryn by her nursemaid about a pair of sisters separated at birth. Not sure if she saw her friend, she called out, "Evony? Are you here?"
