Sitting alone in the sun-filled library, Flavia held the summons from the King, examining each word minutely. They were readily enough understood, but their implication was what held her attention transfixed on the parchment. They were called to Bordelaix to stand before the King and his chosen heir, but that heir was not whom Flavia expected to see proclaimed. No, the King acted sentimentally and chose his daughter to become the Queen instead of a strong, infinitely more capable male heir. There was a part of her that respected the King's decision to anoint a female finally to take the throne, especially considering her own position, yet there was a significant difference between maintaining a County and holding the reins of a Kingdom.
Stephane must be infuriated... Musing to herself as she held the parchment between two fingers, Flavia settled back in her chair, her blue eyes gone distant with thought. The announcement changed a great deal of her own plans, not the least of which was the demand now to attend the Royal Court in Bordelaix. Torn between her plans for Treveno and the desire to watch the drama unfold in the court, she contemplated the ability to manage both simultaneously. Regardless, she accepted that they were about to undertake a journey.
Reaching over, she gave the bell pull a tug to summon one of the maids. Tossing the parchment atop her desk, Flavia barely looked up when a form appeared in the doorway, issuing her order crisply, "Please ask Lady Florence to join me and bring tea. Thank you." A nod dismissed the maid, returning her attention back to her desk as she drew out a piece of vellum, a bottle of ink and a quill, preparing to write a letter once she'd spoke with her sister and advised Florence to get ready.
There was a change of plans for the autumn.
