Evening all,
Just wanted to run a quick character idea past everyone before I really got down to working on the character, mainly to make sure everything is kosher with your first character ruleset and the lack of a usual interaction with the main families, at least to start out.
So the initial idea is a monk who left his monastery in order to live a life more in like with the older religious traditions in Vulcanis; more of an introspective, nature-focused look on the Maker, centered around the rejuvenation, re-creation, and ultimately the cleansing of the current world in the quest for something newer and "better". My initial thought was going with someone distantly related to Clan Cadag, but after looking through the family tree I thought it might fit well with Teodor macCadag, bastard son of Dafyth Cadag, if Teodor ended up not being claimed by his father and instead grew up with whoever his mother was, deciding to serve in a monastery instead of live the life of a vassal or try to get his father - who he's not 100% sure is actually his father - to claim him.
His primary goals would be to preach his version of the Maker's plan for the world, something likely a bit more fire-and-brimstone than most, but also to work his way up the ranks a bit to a point where he could enact some sort of change to the Church as a whole.
He wouldn't be a good character by any means. No pulled punches with what his plans will be - they probably won't be pretty. There will probably be a killing or two, some backhanded deals, some bribes, things of the sort as he works his way up the ladder. If I write him into a corner, screw up somewhere, and he dies early it isn't a problem; it's a part of the story of the world and he'll have made a bit of a contribution, and that's awesome as it is. But if his plans progress, I play the diplomacy factor right, get him to places where he needs to be... Well, I think it would be a fun dynamic to see how a pair of rival churches face off over varying interpretations of the same base mythology.
Anyway, it would take a while to get him up and running, likely starting by attempting to get under the wing of a noble or two, trying to prove he has the blood of the Clan Laird in him, starting a small congregation, that sort of thing, and it would be something a bit different from what I've skimmed through so far, so I wanted to run it by here first before I got started.
Any thoughts, adjustments, ideas, whatever, are welcome, and if it's too much I can adjust and play something else, but I think this would be my first choice if it's possible.
Thanks!
