The last few days were a blur for Regan, making her head spin with the non-stop pace that did not end with the departure of Artur and his wife with Fioleth and Gwynver for Bordelaix. The four-some had received Merthen's blessing to travel ahead, sped on by concern for Vittoria's family after she received a letter from her brother the Duke about an attack on them. Regan could hardly blame her sister-in-law for her anxiety and if she had been in the same position, would want to leave as soon as possible. In a way, their early travel made preparing easier for her - she had less people now to be sure were packed and ready. Eirian had proved herself a great help in that regard as well.
Now the night before their own departure, she had thoughts weighing on her mind for what lay ahead of them. The talk in Merthen's study on the day they received the summons had stayed with the Lady of Llwyn Newyth until she felt herself going around and around, knowing that they needed to make decisions to execute on their arrival in Bordelaix. Regan also had her reservations about bringing Aemrys along as well, more because of the Cruachs' tendency to seize the advantage where it presented itself. She had agreed with Merthen's reasoning on keeping Eirian with them and sending Fio ahead, but now she needed to speak with him about all of it, and Angus as well. Her husband's uncle, despite his birth, had a good head on his shoulders.
Sending Aemrys off to his chambers for the night, Regan went to look for the two men, trusting that she would find them together in Merthen's study as was the habit after the evening meal. Approaching the door, she spoke to one of the men, requesting that she be allowed to join them for a short time to speak her mind and hear their responses. It was rare for her to do so but it was best to be prepared in her mind.
