Returning home after an afternoon spent in company with her father attending to social responsibilities, Daniela was a bit weary as they emerged from the carriage to climb up the steps and into the small townhouse they occupied in the city of Bordelaix. The visit with the Duke and his new Duchess passed very pleasantly, then they'd wandered the vast markets to gauge the interest in wines and other liqueurs. Stopping at one of the finer inns for a pleasant dinner, she was in a good mood, anticipating the satisfaction of a quiet evening spent in sewing or some other domestic task that awaited her attention.
The door was opened for them by one of the servants, allowing the pair entry into the foyer. Dani stripped off her gloves, handing them off to her suddenly present lady's maid along with the parasol when the other servant cleared his throat subtly to gain her attention. Turning to him, she raised a brow curiously as he shifted, obviously uncomfortable, but said nothing as she waited for him to speak. Finally, he coughed nervously, then mumbled, "There's someone waiting for you in the parlor, m'lord, m'lady. He... had a ring with the House signet, so there was no denying him entry."
Daniela felt her face arrange itself into a frown, glancing to her father inquiringly. Did he know who the person was? Deciding not to wait for her father's reply, she nodded to the servant and turned abruptly, heading for the parlor to see who opted to impose themselves on the Savarese hospitality uninvited. As she reached the threshold, she paused, sweeping her gaze around the room with a kind of suspicion. Who was it?
