Background:
Ian was born the eldest son of the second born son in the family. He was the second child though. His older sister being only one year old they did everything together growing up. He was there for her and they enjoyed their time together.
He was only two when he gained another sibling. He wasn’t sure what to make of that except he was no longer the baby of the family. He didn’t like that the attention was stolen from him. There was nothing he could do about that either. He just continued to spend time with his older sister.
At age five he found out about Tamhas. His cousin was five years older than him. He enjoyed spending time with his cousin and made sure he was around him. He saw him as a great role model at that age. He wanted to be around Tam as much as possible hoping the other boy didn't mind. He liked learning things that Tam knew. That didn't mean he didn't give his attention to his sister still though. He shadowed them both pretty well.
He was six when his last sibling was born. He was used to not having the attention any more really. He thought it was good that he had younger siblings to defend if needed as well as his older sister. He would hang around the new baby trying to understand more about this. He was curious now and wanted to get to know his baby sibling. He lost interest though when the baby didn’t do much more than sleep, eat, and cry.
At eight was the time when he met his other cousin Adair. He found the boy was his age and pretty reckless. He was walking through the forest when he heard something. He found the boy near a waterfall. He seemed fearless enough as he jumped into the lake below. Ian went to check and found Adair was alright. He asked what his cousin was thinking and found he wasn't. After that Ian sort of tried to become the thought of reason for his wild antics. It didn't always work.
It was about that time when he met Kenna too. She was always trailing after her siblings. So any time spent with his cousins she was there. He wasn't sure he liked that, but got used to it. He wondered more about how to get rid of her so it could just be the boys. He knew he would be scolded if he acted on that though. He hoped his sister would help him out, but she was busy. He just grinned and bore it though figuring it was just one of those things.
When they were old enough though they were made to separate and pursue what a lady and lord should. Each had lessons in what they should be doing. However, Ian was not one to enjoy his lessons. He would hide or run from them no matter what he was told. He just couldn’t find a way to concentrate or desire to sit through those. He would often disappear for hours on end outside. His father scolded him plenty but it did no good in this. He just couldn't help but wanting to be outdoors.
When Ian was fifteen he was going through hobbies. He was looking to make his mark on the world. He read somewhere that people could die of poisons. He started to find the antidote to poisons and took the poison before the antidote leaving the poison in his system a little longer each time. He wanted to be immune to as many as possible not liking to be weak.
When he was nineteen he found a passion with flowers. He loved spending time out in the garden. He would look for a way to make the flowers look even better. He thought of how to make them resplendent instead of just nice. He even thought of the bushes and how to reshape them. He worked with the gardener learning as much as possible.
His father and him had grown apart. He tried to be the good son, but considering what his passion in life was his father just shook his head. Diarmad just didn't understand why Ian would want to pursue anything with flowers. He tried to bring the boy around to being a normal Lord showing him he was heir to his father. Ian thought differently though considering he had a sister elder and that she would inherit if not her husband. They talk little now having very little in common and not much to say to each other.
He remembers that Kenna loves to draw and will often seek her out to see if she knows of any new flowers or if she could draw something for him. He isn't that skilled like her with drawings and likes to have some of his plans on paper. Last time he tried he got laughed at for his drawing ability. He leaves that to the more skilled.
At this time in his life he considers himself pretty good in the garden. He has pursued it placing flowers in certain ways thinking first the best way to plant them before actually doing so. He considers the colors and shapes of the flowers along with the bushes and how to reshape them. Ian also looks for good sculptures to place in the garden. His ideal garden would have if not a fountain then at least a waterfall even if a small one.
Writing Sample:
He sighed and was looking at what was left of this one. He hated the idea that someone would come in and just trample a garden. No this was not right. He had his work cut out for him. He sighed and thought about the flowers that should be here. Not only that but they needed maybe a small tree or two. Both placed in the middle of the garden with a bench to sit and enjoy.
Ian realized the garden needed color. It needed to stand out. Purples and pinks wouldn’t be enough. He realized if possible they would need orange and yellow in there. He thought about this and scratched his head. He was already plotting what should go where. The purple across from the yellow and next to the pink. He just wasn’t sure if the orange should be across from the pink. That didn’t seem right. He figured he would have to rethink that color, but what could replace it? White?
