The journey to Sokoku had been a long one for the crew of the Golden Wave. As one of the family’s few carracks, it was uniquely suited to make the long journey across the imposing ocean. With the proper allocation of supplies and rations, such a vessel could likely be at sea for months if necessary. However, such a journey could be rife with peril and the risk of loss was quite high. Though the Deliambres were consummate businessmen, they were not excessively daring, either. A loss of a carrack, after all, was a significant blow to the family vaults.
With fair winds, one could reach Sokoku in twelve days’ time, but the crew of the Golden Wind had not been so fortunate. They happened upon three storms along the way in what had to be a stroke of ill luck. All three managed to blow the ship off course and regaining one’s bearings at sea could be taxing even for the most navigationally competent person. Indeed, rather than arriving from the northwest, the Golden Wave actually approached port from east. Yet, regardless of the proper direction, the crew was happy to see land once again, foreign or otherwise.
The ship eased into the busy port of Ninkatoshi with smaller fishing boats scurrying out of the way as it advanced, though some only managed to do so at the last moment. They were, understandably so, distracted by the arrival of a vessel that was decidedly foreign in design compared to their own. All activity in the port essentially came to a halt for several moments to gawk at the Golden Wave… until the superiors in the area barked at them to get back to work.
Cesare himself was next to the wheel as he breathed in a sigh of relief and took in the sight of the city. The last time he had made this journey was when was a much younger lad, but the Deliambres’ other carrack, the Perfect Bounty typically made the trade runs. However, the Bounty was heavily damaged in a recent storm and Antonin tasked Cesare with traveling to the decidedly foreign port. Fortunately, he had a few translators along with him, though he knew the basic phrases to get around.
As soon as the moorings were secured and the planks let down, Cesare gave his first mate his blessings to issue warnings and leaves for the crewmen to go ashore, but only once the ship was battened down and prepped for the stay in port. Cesare, however, was going take a stroll along the docks… but he made sure to take a translator along with him.

“Ame, a ship has arrived!” Mariko exclaimed to her personal guard upon receiving note from a messenger, quickly ordering a servant to prepare for the little expedition down the port proper from the royal family’s manse in the city. “A ship from … from… Archades.” The word sound odd on her tongue, but she was proud at its utterance. “I’ve only seen them a few times and that was during my childhood.” After all, the royal family did not often travel to Ninkatoshi.
“I want to see them,” she declared in the sanctity of her rooms. “Let us go, shall we?” She laughed quietly as she puttered toward the sliding door and eased it open. “It will be good for us to get out there, anyway. This place can only offer so much excitement, anyway. Whatever Ame’s answer was, Mariko was already making her way down the hallway, eager to get on their way!
