Recent circumstances prevented Angelia from paying calls upon her cousins to reconnect with them and to talk of confirming their plans to bind the two eastern dukes to the Sandoval agenda. Deeming the afternoon of the fealty ceremony an ideal time, she sent an invitation to both Duchesses to join her for a light repast and a secure opportunity to talk. She also felt there was a significant need to warn Elena and Catalina both of the attacks aimed specifically at those of the Sandoval name; investigations would need to be made to uncover who was behind it, she knew, hoping to persuade either Fausto or Gabriel Blackthorne into accepting the assignment. For now, the best Angelia could do is gather her family and urge them to take care.
Finally allowed to leave her bed, she was still weak and easily fatigued but strove to conceal it. With help from her attentive maid, Angelia donned one of the soft wrap-dresses that Maricela designed for her, her hair loosely arranged and a light touch of cosmetics was applied to conceal her pallor. She doubted she'd fool her cousins, of course, but her pride required her to make the attempt. Dante carried her downstairs, helping to settle her on a comfortable chaise before he set off on his own business; Rafael and Maricela were at the palace, Sebastian was likely with Lord Alexander. That left the house relatively quiet and peaceful for when the ladies arrived.
Closing her eyes, Angelia rested her head back against the chaise's cushions, allowing herself to fall into a light doze, satisfied that all was in readiness for them. She did not have to wait long, the soft jangle of the bell bringing her back to consciousness as the ladies were immediately welcomed and shown in. A soft, warm smile of welcome greeted them along with her outstretched hands. "Cousins, it is so good to see you both... thank you for coming."
