They had not arrived in time for the coronation ceremony, but that suited this particular guest just fine. After all, they had not been invited nor did the Kingdom of Lindblum indicate that they would be in attendance. The coronation of an heir was hardly an earth shattering event in and of itself, but that it was a woman in a traditionally patriarchal kingdom was certainly noteworthy. Yet, Severin was somehow relieved that he had not been present for the event. The man was not adverse to pomp and circumstance by any stretch of the imagination, but to be exposed to it would not serve his purposes. There was too much glitz and glamour, too much obfuscation, too much confusion... it would tell him what he needed to know.
As such, as the Crown Prince and his entourage traveled to Archades, they did so through the port of Lavigne and traveled along the river to Bordelaix. They did not present themselves as a royal entourage and the reasons for doing such would be revealed in time. Instead, they traveled as successful merchants, intent on exploring the city and learn what it had to offer. It was not the entire truth, certainly, but neither was it a malicious lie. Indeed, it gave Severin plenty of time to practice his Archadean accent. It was a curious one, but within a few days travel, he had it down perfectly.
The first few days in Bordelaix was simply devoted to exploring once they secured themselves comfortable rooms in a respectable inn of the Orchid Quarter. Indeed, the city of Bordelaix was a fascinating spectacle, but he did not feel it fully rivaled Jongsborg. However, he was quick to remind himself that the Deverauxs had only claimed this as their capital for the past few centuries whereas Jongsborg has had over half a millennium to establish itself. Yet, he could see that Bordelaix was, essentially, settling in and growing organically. It was an impressive sight, nonetheless.
Eventually, he made his way to the Chateau, easily blending in with a number of nobles and wealthy individuals doing their daily visit to the royal court. It was important that he make his own impressions. Certainly, he had been listening to the denizens of the city. There was much buzz about Crown Princess Nicolette taking the reins, so to speak, but there was concern, too. Vasile was on the brink, the Rohari were in the city and the Sandovals being watched. What a curious time for Archades!
But now it was time to witness the royal family and the court of nobles. However, that would be after his little self guided tour of the castle grounds. The castle was beautiful and how he could he deny himself the pleasure of well maintained grounds. Indeed, it made him wonder just how much sport could be found in the local forests. Presently, the self-proclaimed merchant swathed in handsome, but dark clothing, was studying a statue leading toward the castle itself. It seemed to be a king of old, but he could not immediately recognize him.
