Mariette was not a complicated young woman. If anything, she felt she was overly simple and lacking in sophistication. She was honest to a fault, incapable of deceit or manipulation, something most found odd in a member of the royal family, no doubt. She did not consider herself beautiful, or brilliant, or frankly outstanding in any conceivable fashion, much to the frustration of certain family members and ladies in waiting. Likely, they wanted to shake her out of the funk that had recently descended upon her.
The playful smile barely coaxed a faint smile out of her in return. "I have few to no talents worth speaking of, to be honest," she confessed. The normal sunshine that poured from her had dimmed considerably in the past few weeks until it seemed like Mariette barely shone. And no one, including Mariette herself, knew what to do about it. "But I do enjoy reading and studying history."
She blinked at him when he spoke of making games out of the indignant nobles, a hand pressing to her lips to stifle the laugh that threatened to emerge. Eyes were wide over that hand, all too easily imagine the varied hues of red flowers that could serve to company, or the road map of veins popping out to resemble the Kingdom's highways. "That seems rather unkind, though... I do not think such anger is healthy for the poor noble, nor am I very good at being unkind. It's a skill I never learned."
Mariette hesitated, then decided they were in a public enough venue to accept his arm without causing a scandal. Her hand rested lightly on his sleeve, falling into step with him to begin guiding towards the pergola.
