Juliette was surprised to hear Mariette speak her mind so plainly. Normally, her third sister wasn't one to take that kind of stand or speak so strongly, even if what she said was the truth. It spared her from having to say it for once, making her grateful to Mariette. For a few minutes after Mariette finished talking, she did not say anything, just thought about what was said and if she had anything to add to it.
"I'm with Mariette on a lot of what she's said," the youngest started slowly, hoping that she was not adding fuel to a fire. "We can't change what was, or who we are. I don't think it is right to ask us to change who we are at the core to fit some-one else's idea of what we should be. I'm willing to toe certain lines, but I think our strengths lie in the fact that we are so different. Each of us appeals to a different group of people." Juliette shrugged but made herself continue on.
"Nicolette has my support, of course, and I am trying to help where I can with the Remingtons and whom-ever else comes along. It seems I have a knack for dealing with our foreign guests. As for ladies, I can take on some and I already have a few in mind, but marriage?" Her head shook slowly again. "That's the last thing on my mind, and truth is, I should be the last one married. Nicolette, you need to marry and produce heirs. And Antoinette too. Mariette and I can and should wait."
The truth was, Juliette didn't want to rush into marriage, even if she had a feeling that Nicolette had her husband already picked out. And she didn't want to pretend at being a happy family when they weren't. She was no good at lying.
