Character Name: Amirah bint Qasim al-Khalid
Age: 16
Gender: Female
Birthdate: January 4th, 1411
City / Region: Rohari
House [ Birth, Marriage if applicable ]: al-Khalid
Played by: Selena Gomez
Appearance:
Similar to that of her father, Amirah has the dark coloring of the Rohari people, and it is immediately apparent where she is from when looking at the young girl. She has wide, dark eyes like her mother, and dark silky hair that falls in gentle waves about her face. Being the youngest of her family, she is only just coming into the curves of being a woman, and she still has the face of a child in the mirror, a fact which vexes her at times.
When leaving the city, like her sisters, Amirah always dresses modestly, covering her hair and donning a robe. She prefers, however, the freedom to dress as she likes - in bright colors of the saffron flower and deep reds and golds, no slippers if she can avoid it. Oftentimes, she is reminded of her modesty and is forced to be content with dressing her hair in jewels and flowers.
Personality: Of all her family, Amirah takes after her father the most - she presents the face that ought to be presented. Calm and acting with a decisiveness that is rare in those of her age set. But particularly in a public forum, she is demure, casting her eyes down and away, submissive in nature and devoid of emotion. She is a teenager, however, and at times, emotion needs to be shown. Often her siblings get the brunt of her tantrums, her cries of "it's not fair!" and desperate desire to be part of something more. These can be particularly trying for her siblings, as less has been expected of her growing up. Amirah is vaguely aware, however, that this could mean just the opposite.
Despite her youth, Amirah is smart, having been given the opportunity to sit in on many of her fathers' meetings from a young age, has gained a certain level of political knowledge in the process. This has given her a sense of pride, knowing what her people are capable of, and wanting to help flesh out her fathers' ambitions. However, she knows that she needs also to be a Rohari woman - beautiful, calculating, and also silent, accepting the words of the men. It is a balance she is trying desperately to understand.
Her father has taken care to show his affection, but not spoil Amirah. As a result, Amirah's greatest fear is disappointing her father, who, she has come to realize, is truly a great man. Overall, Amirah is a gem - very sweet, tending to put others above herself (for the most part). What gets her into trouble is her curiosity.

Character History: Amirah is the youngest child born to the great Caliph of the Rohari, and as such, has been raised with a proverbial golden spoon in her mouth. Sadly, she was only two years old when her mother died, so was raised by a series of nurses, nannies, and her sister Sabriyah, which was difficult as, her sister being the oldest, was often busy in maintaining the household.
This could have led Amirah to being bitter, however, it was quite the opposite, as it seemed the whole household took a hand in caring for her - the servants knew what she liked, taught her how to make things, the guards and soldiers teased and played pretend with her, and Sabriyah often did her hair. But the best memories Amirah had was when she had an opportunity to spend time with her father. He would often allow her to sit in on his meetings, promising that it was something that would continue, just so long as she stay quiet. This taught Amirah how to watch, and learn by watching. But she loved playing games with her father - he never placated her, as others in the palace might. He won so often that she could not be a sore loser, she was just determined to beat him, just once.
Amirah has definitely lived a blessed life - no strife, no difficulty - but she is aware that these things happen, and wishes to do what she can to help, but there is very little she can do within the palace walls. While her father's partiality has given her little in the ways of responsibility, she yearns to do more, however, Amirah has found the tasks accomplished by her sister hold no interest for her. In an effort to distract herself, around the age of 14, she found herself in the kitchens more often, learning the magic of making a meal. It was here that she first made a friend outside of those required by her normal routine.
Hala was a mere kitchen maid, but she was Amirah's age and they were both of the same mind. They spent a summer in the palace, cooking together and laughing. But one day, Amirah had gone to fetch Hala after she had not shown up in the kitchen and had found, to her dismay, a man who was known to be attempting to stage a revolution, one who believed her father, the Caliph, was too progressive and desired her family be removed from the seat of power so older traditions might reign. Amirah fetched the guard and watched as he was taken away, along with Hala's family. When Amirah confronted her, asking if she believed what he did, Hala merely asked "Don't you?"
Her disapproval was vehement, and Amirah never saw Hala again, but the interlude has stayed with her ever since, and Amirah knew, without a doubt, just how strong her father was in facing such dissent. She has taken to studying his methods in dealing with certain situations around the kingdom and beyond, and in the last year has grown to be quiet, studious and determined. Though she is not terribly close to her siblings, her interests tending to not align, they do not often fight. Her brother, Bashir, tends to have very different beliefs from herself, politically, and they often debate on such matters - typically, they can overlook their differences, however, it does not always end well. Her eldest sister, Sabriyah, is someone she looks up to, but does not wish to emulate - Amirah's own interests are far different than the duties of running a household. They are truly sisters in every other manner.
Writing Sample:The sun cast a halo about the landscape, burning the tops of buildings and the tips of the palace. Amirah reveled in the warmth, smiling up at the endless blue of the cloudless sky. The youngest daughter of the Caliph had draped herself across a bench in the courtyard, one arm outstretched, her hand resting in the cool water of the fountain, hair fanning out around her. It was the hottest day of the year yet, and Amirah was merely waiting for an opportunity to slip away to swim in the ocean, but for now, this would do, the sun warming her skin and deepening her already considerable tan.
She was running the very real risk of falling asleep when she heard something, the unmistakable sound of soft slippers sliding against the floor. Turning her head, Amirah's full lips curved into a smile - the smile of a princess and a troublemaker. "You'll have to do better than that, trying to sneak up on me."
