A letter was sent on behalf of Her Royal Highness, Crown Princess of Archades, Nicolette Deveraux. It was delivered, by hand, to the leaders of each region on the Twelfth of September. It was addressed personally, given with individual times and dates for the following meeting slot. Each man, for they were all men, was given the option of bringing company in the form of their family or their vassal leaders or could even send an advisor in their stead, but all were expected to have representation attend at the correct date and time. After all, they had sworn loyalty to the throne – to his cousin, so Julien was not going to be patience in face of excuses or tardiness.
So, what was this all about?
Julien’s first big and important task since his cousin’s coronation had passed was to create something of a census. He would be talking business, finance, family, alliance and disputes with each of those he met with. He would want to know everything, and all of it would be recorded down. This was important, it was a clinical organisation of the attributes of the country. It satisfied his curiosity in many ways, and he had already formulated several sticky questions to ask. But, there was a tedium to be expected also from the coming days, as had been proven the day prior when he had embarked upon the first round of these meetings.
Today began the next.
Calandria was a nation of interest to Julien, far to the south and past the unknown lands, it was a nation that relied so heavily on its water system and a nation so different to their own regions. However, Julien was aware that in Calandria women were treated with a great difference to how things usually transpired here at the crownlands. If there was anyone who should back his cousin’s journey to greatness then- on paper- Antonin Deliambre was a great alley. But the distance between the land, the proximity to the scoundrel Sandavol’s, and his marriage to a Montefiore- well, all these things put doubt and question in Julien’s mind.
Still, he was looking forwards to this afternoons meeting. He was looking forwards to meeting the man he had been watching from a distance so far. It would be, Julien felt, a meeting of great enlightenment.
Once more, refreshment was brought, clean parchment placed for the note taking, and the Duke shown into the chamber. And, with respect in the forefront of his mind, Julien rose to greet the man.
