Character Name: Dante Sandoval
Age: 21
Gender: Male
Birthdate: October 31st, 1406
City / Region:
House [ Birth, Marriage if applicable]: Sandoval
Played by: Tom Welling
Appearance:
Tall, dark and handsome was such a cliche statement that even Dante is tired of hearing it, no matter how true it may be. Yes, he was blessed with handsome features. Yes, he had a nice smile. Yes, he did have blue eyes as deep as the sea. Yet, oddly enough, none of that mattered to him. What mattered was what rolled off the tongue. What sweet words did people want to hear?
Nonetheless, he did take good care of his appearance because, to many, it was everything. The man dresses in fine clothing, and when he can get away with it, he does so according to his station. Not as a man stuck in city that paled to his family's true home, but rather as a man destined to rule the kingdom. As such, colors are carefully chosen, fabrics are of high quality and everything looks perfectly in place.
Personality:
Dante is the devil. The meaning of such a statement, however, is up to debate. To some, the devil is the embodiment of evil and the opposite of everything good. Yet, one could easily catch Dante performing a random act of kindness to some poor unfortunate soul. Helping some poor chap that had taken a great heap granted no especial burden on him, so why not? Dante has no interest in seeing people suffer. Thus, saying Dante is the devil should not hold any cruel or evil connotation.
Rather, Dante is the devil with the silver tongue and smile on his face. He fully understands and appreciates the power of manipulation, charisma and seduction. Promising a fair maiden the world and moon while extracting whatever earthly treasures she possesses is not something he would think twice about. If the act gets him what he wants and furthers his goals, the young man sees no inherit moral conflict in the act.
Fortunately, such devilry has its limits. Within and without him exists a powerful conscience found mostly in the form of his twin sister. If Dante is the devil then Angelia is his dear angel on high, guiding him away from a truly dark path to one that has a bit more sunlight upon it. For all of Dante’s ambition, hedonism, and greed, Angelia truly helps Dante stay on track and remember the grander picture. After all, the things he plays with are people.
Dante is quite loyal to his family, a sense of which has been deeply imbued in all of the Sandovals. The Sandoval history is a richly storied one full of adventure and misadventure alike. It was only by working together that they were able to succeed and, indeed, survive. Thus, they can be rest assured that Dante’s actions are not completely selfish as he wants what his best for his family… it just that he also wants a piece for himself.
From this loyalty to the family name, however, and buried under the shield of devilish charisma lies a core of anger that had been instilled within him since childhood. The Sandovals had been robbed of what was once theirs. Their kingdom gone, their lands absconded and their name now a mere topic of historic interest. No more. Under Dante's leadership, the Sandovals would rise to their former glory and mercy upon anyone who stood in his way.
Background:
Born several minutes before his dear sister, Dante was the eldest son born to Joaquin and Simone Sandoval. The birth was a palpable source of relief for Joaquin, whose own father had been an only child from the previous line. There had even been some concern of the Sandoval line surviving the next few generations. Fortunately, Esteban II managed to have several children of his own and as history would soon reveal, Joaquin managed to do the same by maintaining good relations with those in the North, the remaining loyal vassals and those duchies stood by the Sandovals. With the bloodline conserved, Joaquin could turn his attention to the ultimate goal of the family: the restoration of their crown.
Like many a house heir, Dante was given several fine tutors and a thorough grounding in many subjects. Dante's childhood was relatively uninteresting: he learned, he played and he grew. It was not until he began to grow into a man that his tale gets interesting. Dante not only learned that females were lovely creatures, he also realized just how easy it was to manipulate people into doing his bidding. Granted, when called on it, he would argue that he was simply negotiating; there was no need to use an ugly word such as manipulation.
Dante learned the earthly pleasures soon enough, savoring them at every opportunity. Yet, his father would not let his dallying get the house in a scandal. Repeatedly, Dante and Joaquin had arguments over Dante chasing the fair maidens of the isles, warning him the heavy price such pleasures can exact. However, Joaquin and Simone recognized that he was a passionate young man yearning to live life and as such, they taught Dante the value of a discreet mistress.
Relieved to have that issue resolved, Joaquin was determined to temper Dante into the leader the kingdom would need. The art of negotiation was no issue and, indeed, Dante was responsible for several business deals during his later teen years. Some were successful, others were not. The latter proved a source of great anger and frustration for young Dante. It was only his dear sister that was able to calm him down and show him the benefit of the grander picture. Dante and Angelia had always been close, but Dante never fully realized just how observant and driven his was until that moment. From then on, Dante frequently encouraged Angelia's counsel.
Life went on, and the Sandoval furor within Joaquin passed on to his son. The notion that the Sandovals had been robbed of their livelihoods was a truth that was still swallowed like a bitter pill. It was plain to Dante, despite their hard work in their exiled home, they were capable of much more. The lands of Estersea were rightfully theirs, yet the Sandovals saw no realistic way of regaining them. Thus, their eyes turned to Beaulaix.
Now Dante has to look to the future. Plans had to be set into motion. Allies had to be made, marriages formed, and a crown plucked from a brow...

"I don't care that he is 'used to the old price.' Does he not understand how the market works? If there is a hard growing year, paper production declines, supply goes down and thus we have to raise the price to cover our expenses. He is not going to find better paper in time to meet his own scribes' needs. If he wants his business to suffer, then he wait until next year and hope for a better growing season. Or buy from one of the suppliers overseas, which I guarantee you will not save him a mint." Dante's expression was cold as he gazed at the House Steward. Dante did not mean to rise his ire at the man, who was essentially only being a messenger, but that was the life of a servant.
He sighed heavily, "Send him a message. Tell him that the price is fixed. If he wants to argue, tell him to come in person and I will hopefully bash logic into his head. ... or I'll just bash into the damned wall," he waved his hand dismissively, not wanting to deal with the situation. As the steward departed, Dante found himself looking out the window of his study. It was a beautiful summer day. The sun was shining, the wind was gently wafting through the air and the birds were singing. His eyes inexorably drifted toward the willow tree. Was Angelia there? It was hard to see due to the branches.
The man decided he was done for the day. Time to see for himself what Angelia was enjoying this time around...
